"Life is not just in front of us, but also poetry and distant fields". On December 6, the eighth batch of Chinese (Shanghai) young volunteers returned from their service team in Laos. In the past six months, the team members have practiced the volunteer spirit of "dedication, fraternity, mutual assistance and progress", carried out a lot of work in Chinese language teaching, medical care, information technology and computer teaching, Chinese language news broadcasting, Chinese medicine rehabilitation and other aspects, and contributed their due strength to promoting the spread of friendship between China and the elderly generations. The team members also actively participated in the high-level visit reception of ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meetings and ASEAN Summit, and used practical actions to create a shining business card for Chinese young volunteers. The Lancang Mekong River, a winding river, links the profound friendship between the people of China and Laos with a long history. The volunteer sincerely said, "We are lucky because our youth is blooming in Laos and along the Mekong River."

The original intention sows the seeds of dreams in the distance

"Volunteers should give full play to their professional expertise and service skills, integrate into Laos as soon as possible, reach out to the masses, make real contributions to the development of Laos' economic and social undertakings, constantly enhance the international influence of China's volunteer service cause, and win honor for Chinese youth." With expectations and expectations, the eighth batch of China (Shanghai) The service team of young volunteers to Laos left Shanghai half a year ago to carry out volunteer service work in Vientiane, Laos for half a year.

The night before his departure, Chen Xinhui hardly slept a wink. She could have reunited with her husband after three years of Tibetan aid in two days, but she chose to volunteer in Laos and rub shoulders with her husband again. "As a volunteer, I was also influenced by my husband, who has been separated for three years. It's nothing for us to wait another half year." This is Chen Xinhui's original intention. "It was once said that the most difficult thing in the journey of life is to find a pure land in this complicated world where we can face our own hearts alone. The volunteer service in Laos gives us such an opportunity to experience that the pure land is here, which is not far away." This is Huang Lu's original intention. "From a student to a Chinese teacher, a family 'cook', a team photographer and other roles, shuttling between various identities allows me to understand myself, others and the world around me from a new perspective. I am glad that in such a team, they are united, optimistic and have their own characteristics, and even let us solve all kinds of problems when we face them." This is Hu Jiajia's original intention.

The volunteers' original dreams were sown in the distant "fields", and they made unremitting efforts to make their dreams blossom and bear fruit.

Into the soil of hope rooted in true feelings

Although Laos and China are "connected by mountains and rivers and live next to each other", there are great differences in living habits, such as hot weather, language barrier, traffic inconvenience, mosquito infestation, etc. Volunteers need to adapt and integrate as soon as possible. When they came to Laos, the volunteers did not want to be passers-by or experience life. Instead, on the basis of overcoming all difficulties, they worked hard to be the folk envoys of China's old friends who passed on from generation to generation, and loved the land and everything on it.

The residence of volunteers has become an important place for friendship. They successively invited the Central Committee of the Lao Delegation, the Lao National Radio, overseas Chinese in Laos, friends from Chinese funded institutions and Lao students to come to the station for a get-together. Every now and then, everyone will work together to bring out their own good dishes to entertain relatives and friends in Laos, and they will also bring their own delicious food to share.

During the six months, the service team to Laos actively carried out various exchange activities to strengthen mutual understanding and enhance mutual feelings. Under the guidance of the Chinese Embassy in Laos, the service team and the Confucius Institute of the National University of Laos jointly organized the "2016 Chinese Culture on Campus" activity, promoting Chinese culture in Vientiane full-time middle school and Supalon full-time primary school, attracting more than 1000 local officials, teachers and students from Laos to participate. Volunteers sang "One Song" and "Love One Family" affectionately and spread their friendship. The booths of "learning to write Chinese characters" and "learning to make Chinese medicine sachets" they were responsible for became the hot spots for Lao friends of all sizes to experience.

The team members also carried out in-depth people to people and cultural exchanges. We have successively carried out dozens of thematic exchanges with the Central Committee of the Lao Youth League, 109 Hospital, Lao National Radio and other units, focusing on the theme of "love and marriage", "doctor-patient relationship", "film culture" and other topics of China and Laos, in order to enhance the understanding of the two peoples in this process, and also help the team members better understand and integrate into Laos.

Devotion irrigates the blooming youth with passion

In terms of daily volunteer service, the volunteers are based on their own posts, working hard, rigorous and pragmatic in broadcasting, medical and teaching posts, fully reflecting the spirit of dedication and pioneering volunteers.

Zhang Peng and Chen Xinhui are responsible for collecting and selecting international news and information every day to ensure a 20 minute international news duration. In the broadcasting room, in order to ensure the sound quality of the recorded news, the ventilation system and air conditioning must be turned off. In addition, the air quality in the enclosed space is poor, and generally more than 5 minutes will lead to throat discomfort and dry throat. They not only worked hard to overcome difficulties, but also took the initiative to upload each Chinese program to the domestic lychee FM, so that more people in the world can hear the "Voice of China" from Laos.

As the backbone of young people in orthopaedics and traditional Chinese medicine in Shanghai, Jiang Chaoyin, Wang Lili and Zhou Rui participated in more than 100 major and minor surgical operations, diagnosed and treated more than 10 severe cases of difficult and miscellaneous diseases, such as acute myelitis with hemiplegia, and treated nearly 5000 patients in total. They also selflessly imparted their superb professional skills to local medical staff. They carry out guidance hand in hand in clinical practice. When encountering difficult or critical patients, they will supplement and explain relevant knowledge after analyzing the condition, and strive to improve the local medical level in practice.

They also actively carried out propaganda and technical exchange activities, and gave lectures to colleagues in the hospital in their spare time. Training courses such as "Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Defibrillation Treatment Process of the General Hospital of the Lao People's Armed Police", "ECG Training of the General Hospital of the Lao People's Armed Police", and "Exercise Regimen and Taboos" were carried out successively. A total of 12 publicity, education and technical exchange activities were carried out, covering nearly 100 medical staff, and were welcomed by local medical staff.

During the volunteer service period, Huang Lu, Wang Dewang and Hu Jiajia carried out volunteer service in Baiyunbi International School as Chinese language teachers and computer teachers. After hard work, the volunteers opened a window for the children here to know China and planted a seed about China. The children began to like China, like Chinese culture, and like Chinese volunteers, which became an unexpected harvest for the volunteers. Zhang Hao and Shen Jingyuan are teaching Chinese at the Central Training Center of the Lao Youth League. In order to help students better master Chinese, they constantly innovate teaching methods and enrich teaching content, giving 550 hours of lectures in six months.

"I don't like meetings, but I like classes" is a Chinese sentence that everyone in the Central IT Center of the Laos Mission speaks most. Wu Zhuoyao carried out Chinese language teaching and computer-aided work in the Central IT Center of the Lao Youth League. The daily Chinese class is not only the time for learning, but also the most enjoyable time in their busy day. He also held a weekly interest class on Chinese culture. With the help of multimedia projection in the conference room, he selected Shanghai city propaganda films, "China on the Tongue" and other films containing Chinese and Shanghai elements, which were welcomed by students.

Participate in creating a shining name card for volunteers

On the stage of voluntary diplomacy, the volunteers of the service team also participated in the reception of many international conferences. From July 23 to 26 this year, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held in Vientiane, Laos. From the 22nd to the 27th, from the dawn to the moon, the busy members of the service team can be seen everywhere in the Laos National Convention Center, the hotel where the delegation is stationed and the temporary workshop of the conference, accompanied by hard work and warm smiles.

September 9 is an unforgettable day for the service team members. Premier Li Keqiang, during his attendance at a series of meetings of leaders of East Asian cooperation and his official visit to Laos, received Chinese and overseas Chinese from Laos, Chinese funded institutions, representatives of overseas students, embassy staff and volunteers in the banquet hall of the Dongchang Hotel in Vientiane, Laos, and made an important speech. The Prime Minister affirmed the work of the volunteers many times in his speech. He said, "In this ASEAN Summit, comrades from the Embassy, comrades from all walks of life, as well as a dozen young volunteers from Shanghai, your hard work has created very favorable conditions for the success of our summit. Here, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to you!" The Premier's speech excited the volunteers present.

"What we have gained from volunteer service is the sense of growth. Especially in the volunteer service life overseas, it is full of life accumulation." Looking back on the dedication and dedication in the past six months, the volunteers of the service team said, "We are lucky because our youth is blooming in Laos and on the Mekong River."
