On March 26, the 2021 College Students Volunteer Service for the Western (Mountainous) Plan of Guangdong University of Finance was held in the academic lecture hall, and Yu Yue'e, director of Guangdong Volunteer Action Guidance Center, Xu Lihua, secretary of the Youth League Committee of the University, and the volunteer delegation of the Western (Mountainous) Plan attended the lecture.

At the meeting, Zhu Yanmei, Huang Chengmin and Zheng Jinyan, the volunteer representatives of the Western (Mountain Area) Program, shared their journey to the west.

Zhu Yanmei, a volunteer of the 2018 Western Plan

Three years ago in August, Zhu Yanmei embarked on a volunteer trip to the west of Changning County, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province. In the past two years, Zhu Yanmei has multiple identities, such as Red Cross worker in the county, poverty alleviation worker in Nino Village, primary school volunteer, agricultural product public welfare "carrier", etc. Recalling the past, she sighed with emotion: "The rugged and muddy mountain roads remind me of my childhood memories, but also more firmly my pace of volunteer service."

In order to promote the development of agricultural products, she spontaneously "brought goods" from the circle of friends and helped Nino Village sell more than 800 jin of agricultural products. In 2018, she participated in the 14th Yunnan Provincial Congress of the Communist Youth League of China as a volunteer representative. "Volunteer service is the inheritance of love. 'Giving others fish is better than giving others fish.' We should warm others with the warmth we have received," said Zhu Yanmei.

Huang Chengmin, Volunteer of 2019 Western Plan

"Just ask about the original intention, not the west and east. As long as you have ideas, the west will have opportunities for you." This is a phrase often mentioned by Huang Chengmin, a volunteer who went to Xinjiang to support the western plan. Since her freshman year attended the school's western plan seminar, she has made up her mind to go where the motherland needs to play her personal value. Four years later, she kept her promise.

"When I first came to the west, I experienced confusion, but more of it was the excitement and sense of achievement of constantly challenging myself and trying new things. Volunteers are the bridge between kindness and kindness." This is her deepest feeling in Xinjiang. At last, Huang Chengmin showed the local conditions and customs along the way and passionately expressed his belief that "if the western plan does not come, you may regret it for a lifetime". Now, "being a lifelong volunteer" has become Huang Chengmin's new goal.

Zheng Jinyan, Special Volunteer of "One School and One Community" in 2020 Mountain Plan

In 2020, when the haze of the epidemic has not completely cleared up, Zheng Jinyan, as a fresh graduate, has received some olive branches, but the volunteer flame in her heart makes her entangled. From her childhood experience, she fell in love with volunteering, but the employment situation made her mind swing. She thought: since choice is a kind of giving up, giving up is also a kind of choice, it is better to take it as a buffer period to find what you like. Finally, Zheng Jinyan embarked on a voluntary journey in the mountain area.

Zheng Jinyan shared her volunteer service experience in Yunfu Cangang Middle School, such as case study and home visit: "The thought of the children's words' Sister Xiaoyan 'made me fall into a small touch of' helping others and achieving myself 'again, I really felt that I was integrated into this large group in the mountain area, and I also more clearly defined my future direction." Zheng Jinyan said with emotion.

It is understood that in this extraordinary year last year, 24 young people from Guangdong Institute of Finance went to the west (mountainous areas) one after another to carry out volunteer services in education, health, agricultural technology and other areas in Tibet, Xinjiang, Guizhou, Hainan and Guangdong.
