Xi'an, China, June 22, 2018] Recently, China Mobile Shaanxi Company (hereinafter referred to as "Shaanxi Mobile") and Huawei completed the world's first large-scale commercial deployment of cloud based BRAS, achieving a smooth upgrade from the existing network's traditional BRAS to cloud based BRAS, and stably carrying 100000 users and 300000 sessions, So as to accumulate valuable experience for the subsequent large-scale deployment of the program in the world. This is also a key milestone event for Shaanxi Mobile in the exploration of the evolution of IT based telecommunications network.
Shaanxi Mobile has implemented the "broadband million" strategy since 2016, and the home products based on wired broadband+home video have effectively promoted the market development. The number of broadband users has increased from about 600000 at the end of 2015 to about 2.2 million at present. With the rapid development of various businesses, traditional BRAS is facing huge challenges such as uneven resource utilization, slow business launch, and complex operation and maintenance. In the past year, Shaanxi Mobile and Huawei have jointly explored the deployability of the cloud based BRAS scheme under the telecom cloud architecture, and fully considered the needs of the real scene, gradually forming the evolution idea of centralized cloud based control and diversified transfer and control separation.
In 2018, Shaanxi Mobile conducted in-depth verification on the scale commercial capability of cloud based BRAS in two stages, including user scale bearing, remote disaster recovery and peripheral system docking, aiming to form a replicable commercial capability baseline, and further promote the large-scale commercial implementation of cloud based BRAS. In the first stage, by increasing the cloud control surface, and selecting the existing network's traditional BRAS equipment to directly upgrade to the cloud BRAS physical forwarding surface, the user's large-scale bearing is completed under the condition of "zero" hardware changes; In the second stage, upgrade based on the existing network control plane, complete the deployment of the remote disaster tolerance environment of the control plane, and ensure the carrier level reliability guarantee under large-scale commercial use. The cloudization of BRAS is the key to the intelligence and openness of the entire MAN. This commercial deployment has realized the cloud management of large-scale users. In the future, Shaanxi Mobile will further explore and practice the capabilities of the cloud based BRAS in intelligent operation, openness and programmability, and create a smart MAN based on the telecom cloud architecture.
