The School of Journalism of Renmin University of China, founded in 1955, is the first higher journalism education institution in new China founded by the Communist Party of China. In 1958, the journalism and communication discipline of Renmin University of China gathered the disciplinary resources of Yanjing University, Peking University and Renmin University of China. After more than 60 years of development, it has become the cradle of journalists in New China, an important research center of Marxist journalism, a master machine of journalism and communication education, an innovative leader of journalism and communication education reform, and an important platform for global communication and education exchanges and cooperation.
The School of Journalism of Renmin University of China has four departments, namely, the Department of Journalism, the Department of Communication, the Department of Audiovisual Communication, and the Department of Advertising and Media Economics, and has established a comprehensive talent training system covering undergraduate, master, and doctoral degrees. The college has two national key disciplines, journalism and communication, and a national experimental teaching demonstration center. It is the supporting institution of the "Journalism and Social Development Research Center of Renmin University of China", a key research base of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education. The journalism and communication discipline of Renmin University of China has won the first or "A+" in the four national first level discipline evaluations carried out by the Ministry of Education. In 2017, the journalism and communication discipline of Renmin University of China entered the national "double first-class" discipline construction sequence.
The School of Journalism of Renmin University of China has made groundbreaking and pioneering contributions to discipline construction and talent training. The college has 28 people selected into various national key talent projects, and 11 experts who enjoy special government subsidies. It continues to play a leading and exemplary role in building an academic discourse system of journalism and communication with Chinese characteristics and innovative talent training mode. At the same time, the college has a news communication experimental center and a literature center. The News and Communication Experimental Center was rated as the "National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center".
