The Department of English began to enroll English majors in 1990. In 1986, it was granted the right to confer a master's degree in English language and literature, and in 2011, it was granted the right to confer a doctor's degree in English language and literature. There are 24 full-time teachers, including 12 professors and 9 associate professors. The proportion of doctoral degree holders is 87%. The full-time faculty of the Department has achieved fruitful research results in the past five years, publishing 67 core journal papers, 11 overseas journal papers, 23 monographs, 5 books, 9 translations, and textbooks 9, won the teaching and scientific research projects at provincial and ministerial level and above 13 projects were approved. The Department is committed to carrying out in-depth exchanges and cooperation with world famous universities, and has established cooperative relations with many foreign universities.

The major of English Language and Literature has four research directions: English and American literature and literary theory research, English linguistics and English teaching research, translation theory and practice research, and culture research of English speaking countries.

With the development of the globalization of the world economy, the demand for excellent talents who are proficient in one or two foreign languages and have high comprehensive quality in all walks of life has increased sharply.
