It has been officially recognized as the World Meteorological Center by the World Meteorological Organization and has become one of the nine world meteorological centers, marking that the overall level of China's meteorological modernization has entered the world's advanced ranks.

Over the past 40 years since the reform and opening up, China has built the world's largest and most comprehensive meteorological observation system. More than 2400 national ground meteorological observation stations have all been automated, with nearly 60000 regional automatic meteorological observation stations and 96% coverage of villages and towns. 17 Fengyun series meteorological satellites were successfully launched, 8 were in orbit, 198 new generation Doppler weather radars formed a rigorous meteorological disaster monitoring network, and a professional meteorological monitoring network for ecology, environment, agriculture, ocean, transportation, tourism, etc. was initially established.

China has built a sophisticated and seamless modern weather forecasting system, which has been able to release forecasting products from minute, hour to month, quarter, year to decade. Global numerical weather forecasting is refined to 10km, national intelligent grid forecasting is refined to 5km, and regional numerical weather forecasting is refined to 1km. Typhoon, heavy pollution weather, sandstorm Professional meteorological forecast services such as mountain torrents and geological disasters.

China has built a high-speed meteorological network, a massive meteorological database, and a supercomputer system. The high-speed broadband meteorological network has reached gigabit per second, the total amount of meteorological data storage has reached nearly 300TB, and the peak value of high-performance computing has reached 8000 trillion times per second.

In the face of the growing demand for meteorological services, meteorological departments continue to expand their fields, enrich their products and improve their means. Meteorological services have expanded to dozens of departments such as transportation, water conservancy, energy, tourism, etc., integrated into hundreds of industries, and covered hundreds of millions of people. The economic and social benefits of meteorological services have significantly improved, and public satisfaction has remained above 85 points.
