Shandong is the first major agricultural province in China with a gross agricultural output value of more than one trillion yuan, and has the reputation of "Qilu granary". The work of "agriculture, rural areas and farmers" has always been the focus of General Secretary Xi Jinping.
In June 2018, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out during his investigation in Shandong that we should "solidly implement the rural revitalization strategy and create a Qilu model for rural revitalization."
In October 2021, during the soybean harvest season, General Secretary Xi Jinping came to Dongying Yellow River Delta Agricultural High tech Industry Demonstration Zone for investigation. Due to sea water invasion and other reasons, more than 80% of the land here is saline alkali land. In recent years, through ecological utilization and seed industry innovation, a variety of salt tolerant crops with high yield and good varieties have grown in saline alkali land.
The general secretary went into the field, bent down to pick a pod, peeled a soybean, put it in his mouth and chewed it carefully, saying, "The beans grow very well." The general secretary said that the red line of 1.8 billion mu of arable land should be kept, and 500 million mu of saline land should also be fully developed and utilized. If salt tolerant crops are developed, they will play an important role in ensuring China's granary and rice bowl.
Rural revitalization cannot be separated from industrial revitalization. The General Secretary paid close attention to some rural characteristic industries in Shandong.
In 2013, when inspecting the Yaoshun Peony Industrial Park in Heze City, the General Secretary picked up a bottle of Peony Seed Oil, opened the bottle cap, smelled it, and asked about pricing, production and marketing. Later, General Secretary Xi Jinping held a special discussion with the main comrades in charge of Heze City and its counties and districts to discuss the good policies for poverty alleviation and development and accelerating development.
In 2023, when inspecting the pomegranate germplasm resource bank of Guanshi Guayuan in Zaozhuang, the General Secretary pointed out that the pomegranate industry has development potential and should "drive more villagers to become rich together".

As a major economic province, Shandong plays an important role in the overall development of the country. However, in the process of economic transformation from high-speed growth to high-quality development, Shandong once faced problems such as the overall emphasis on industrial structure and the small amount of emerging industries.
At the beginning of 2018, Shandong Province's new and old kinetic energy conversion comprehensive pilot area was approved for construction, becoming the first comprehensive pilot area for regional development strategies with the theme of new and old kinetic energy conversion in China.
In June 2018, during the investigation in Shandong, General Secretary Xi Jinping came to the high-end fault-tolerant computer production base of Inspur Group. On March 8, 2018, when attending the deliberation of the Shandong delegation at the first session of the 13th National People's Congress, General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed that the ocean is a strategic place for high-quality development.
In June of that year, General Secretary Xi Jinping came to Qingdao National Laboratory of Marine Science and Technology Pilot when he was investigating in Shandong.
In the Supercomputing Simulation Hall, General Secretary Xi Jinping carefully observed the operation of high-performance scientific computing and system simulation platform, and asked scientific researchers about the latest progress in building supercomputer Internet, developing artificial intelligence and big data system "Deep Blue Brain", and building a national first-class marine system simulator. Qufu, with a history of more than 3000 years, is a famous historical and cultural city and the hometown of Confucius.
On November 26, 2013, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited Qufu Confucius Mansion and Confucius Institute. When he saw the two books "General Interpretation of Confucius Family Language" and "Interpretation of the Analects of Confucius", the General Secretary picked them up and read them, saying: "I want to read these two books carefully."

In Lai113 Block of Shengli Oilfield in Laizhou Bay, Dongying City, the General Secretary climbed up the 10 meter high drilling platform along the iron ladder and walked into the driller's room to have a cordial exchange with the oil workers who were working.

Yimeng old revolutionary base area has made important contributions to the victory of the Chinese revolution.
