Jiefang Daily (reporter Gu Yong) As the country with the largest number of diabetes patients in the world, China has incorporated diabetes prevention and treatment into the special action of health China. At the seminar of "Expert Consensus on Clinical Application of Continuous Glucose Monitoring" held recently, it was reported that at present, China has more than 140 million diabetic patients, ranking first in the world, and is expected to increase to 174 million by 2045. Experts said that compared with hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia brings more acute health risks, but in clinical practice, the risk of hypoglycemia is more likely to be ignored.

Hypoglycemia is one of the most common acute complications of diabetes, which can occur in any diabetic patient. Severe hypoglycemia may cause fatal coma, fracture, arrhythmia and other problems. Therefore, in addition to closely monitoring and controlling hyperglycemia, more attention should be paid to the potential risks and hazards of hypoglycemia. Mother Yiming, chief physician of the First Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital, said that clinicians and patients usually use the Continuous Glucose Monitoring System (CGM) to manage blood sugar. Its stability and accuracy are very critical, which can also help doctors and patients better control the overall situation of blood sugar.

Experts suggested that in actual use, patients should also pay special attention to the data within the hypoglycemia range, especially for high-risk diabetic patients, such as insulin users, specific drugs, the elderly and people with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, it is important to accurately capture hypoglycemia data.

Chen Liming, vice chairman of the Chinese Diabetes Association, said that with the continuous improvement of diabetes diagnosis, treatment and management, the international has launched an integrated continuous glucose monitoring system (iCGM) standard with higher accuracy requirements. The standard has strict requirements for 11 performance indicators of glucose monitoring, including the accuracy of readings covering the whole blood glucose range, the stability of sensors throughout the service life, and the measurement data for children's wearers.
