Tonight reporter Liu Guifang

The paper cutting technique of Yangliuqing is a municipal intangible cultural heritage project in Xiqing District. It has been passed down for six generations and has become a cultural card of the ancient town of Yangliuqing. Hao Guifen, the fifth generation inheritor, has been engaged in paper-cut for more than 50 years. She has constantly pushed through the old to bring forth new ideas, making the ancient folk art of Yangliuqing paper-cut constantly breathe new life.

Hao Guifen told reporters that she was weak and ill when she was young, so she learned paper cutting at home with her grandmother. "The paper-cut patterns I learned from the older generation have a wide range of subjects, including flowers, birds, insects and fish, auspicious patterns, historical stories, myths and legends, and opera characters." Yangliuqing people living by the canal know that the essence of culture lies in communication and integration. Therefore, in the process of inheritance, Yang Liuqing's paper-cut also accepted the influence of the southern paper-cut technology, and achieved the integration of the north and the south in technology. "Paper cutting in the north uses scissors, and some details are difficult to deal with. Paper cutting in the south uses carving knives, and the work is more delicate. We combine cutting and carving, and the Yangliuqing paper cutting is more exquisite and exquisite."

Over 50 years of paper-cut infiltration has made Hao Guifen's skills perfect. "I can 'blind cut', without first drawing patterns, I can cut patterns by picking up scissors and paper." From the original monochrome paper-cut, to the later lining paper-cut, dyeing paper-cut, Hao Guifen kept trying to innovate. Among them, dyeing paper-cut is a technique that she has explored in combination with the culture of New Year pictures. First, she cut out patterns on white paper, and then color them in combination with the techniques of Yangliuqing Youth Painting. This innovation makes Yang Liuqing's paper-cut works more three-dimensional, vivid and lively.

Hao Guifen's large-scale paper-cut works, such as Picture of the River during the Qingming Festival, Picture of Dwelling in Fuchun Mountain, and 108 Heroes of the Marsh, have not only been widely praised, but also won many awards. Among them, "Picture of the River during the Qingming Festival" was selected as a "national gift" to give to foreign friends, and the work "Children's Fun" created in combination with silhouette art was collected by Bill Gates. In order to make Yang Liuqing's paper-cut art popular with more young people, Hao Guifen also insisted on participating in the "Intangible Cultural Heritage on Campus" activity. "I prepared DIY materials for children, taught them how to cut, and I was very happy to see more and more children like paper-cut."
