The trial navigation channel is 5000 meters long, 50 meters wide and 1.1 meters deep. The natural scenery and cultural landscape resources of Jilin City are gathered along the channel.

In order to jointly promote the integrated development of water transportation and tourism and enlarge the advantages of Songhua River tourist channel resources, Jilin City has promoted the improvement of channel conditions and upgrading of infrastructure. The maintenance and dredging project of the main urban section of Songhua River in Jilin City has dredged about 120000 cubic meters, widened the main channel, built riverside wharfs, laid and installed navigation aids and anti-collision beams, and improved the safety and navigation rate of the channel.

In recent years, Jilin's winter tourism is hot, and rime scenery and ski resorts have gradually become famous in the domestic tourism market. Jilin City is focusing on the unique advantage that the urban section of Songhua River in Jilin City does not freeze in winter to promote the four season tourism and navigation of this section of the river.
