He has successively won the National Technical Expert, Hebei Model Worker, Hebei May Day Labor Medal, Hebei Technician with Outstanding Contribution, Hebei Technical Expert, and the Technical Leader of the Military Equipment Group, and enjoyed the special government allowance of the State Council.

For many years, Liu Kun, as the leader of the ultra-high voltage laboratory, has bravely shouldered heavy responsibilities and been good at innovation, leading all members of the team to constantly overcome technical difficulties. He led the team to successively complete the world's first 1000kV transformer with the highest voltage level in Southeast Shanxi, the first domestic transformer with super capacity exported to Canada for 650000kVA/230kV phase modulation and transformation, and many other national major power engineering transformer test projects; Complete the world's largest power transformer test project for hydro generator in Baihetan and Wudongde; More than 200 transformers exported to nearly 30 countries and regions such as the United States, Canada and India were tested. Among them, 1000kV UHV AC transformer won the special prize of "National Science and Technology Progress Award" in 2012; The UHV ± 800kV DC transmission project won the special prize of the 2018 "National Science and Technology Progress Award". As the leader of Liu Kun's innovation studio, he pays attention to skill inheritance, training 5 people to be promoted to technicians, and 2 people to be promoted to senior technicians; Completed 5 innovative projects and more than 20 innovative improvement activities.
