The arc light flickers and the welding spatter flies. At 8 o'clock in the morning, the welding workshop of the Bridge Branch of China Railway Shanqiao Group Co., Ltd. was busy. Here, nearly one hundred workers in multiple work areas work at the same time, undertaking the welding of bridge steel structures.

In the third work area, in front of the huge I-steel members, wearing a welding cap and holding a welding gun, the super technician Zhang Mingzheng held his breath and put the welding wire into the joint between the main beam web and the cover plate to start penetration welding. The steel members of the bridge are huge, and the welds are long and narrow. Zhang Ming often welds for hours at a time. He joined the company at the age of 18, and now Zhang Ming has been engaged in welding for 16 years.

From flat welding to vertical welding, from structural welding to penetration welding, Zhang Ming often works overtime after work. "If you choose this line, you must do your best with your heart." Zhang Ming always remembers the teacher Qu Yan's teaching.

Drill wherever you have difficulties. In 2012, China Tieshan Bridge undertook a foreign project of manufacturing steel bridge decks. The project has strict manufacturing standards. It is required that the single pass welding penetration of the U-shaped rib of the bridge deck should reach more than 80%, and the single pass welding of the flat angle position should be formed at one time. There was no precedent at that time. The company carried out a special test, and Zhang Ming volunteered to participate in the test.

How to meet the requirements of high penetration and ensure no weld leakage? After research, Zhang Ming found a way to adjust welding parameters and machining accuracy. Adjust the welding machine voltage one volt at a time, and adjust the welding speed one time at a time... Finally, Zhang Ming led the technical team to overcome this technical difficulty, and explored and formed a one-time forming process for single pass symmetric welding of U-shaped ribs, ensuring the smooth completion of the manufacturing task.

In his work, Zhang Ming has an unyielding spirit. When participating in the construction of Padma Bridge in Bangladesh, Zhang Ming and his colleagues need to complete the butt joint welding of two super thick steel plates in a box only 370mm wide. The box is narrow and the construction is very difficult; The thickness of super thick steel plate reaches 110mm. At first, Zhang Ming squatted in the stuffy box with a welding gun for most of the day. A few days later, he found that the qualification rate of weld inspection was less than half.

In order to solve the problem of making double bevels in a narrow space for ultra thick plates, Zhang Ming used his off duty time to consult data, carry out experiments and study repeatedly. In repeated failures, he constantly summarized his experience, and finally decided to change the double groove to a single groove. Through penetration welding with steel backing on the back, the welding inside the transformer box was changed to welding outside the box, which not only solved the problem of small space and difficult operation, but also improved the qualification rate of weld detection to more than 99.5%.

We will never stop studying skills. Not long ago, Zhang Ming spent another 4 months to change the gantry submerged arc automatic welding machine from single wire to double wire, breaking through the double wire submerged arc welding technology, reducing the welding process of I-steel members from two to one, and improving the efficiency by one time.

Over the past 16 years, with solid theoretical knowledge and excellent welding skills, Zhang Ming, only 34 years old, has solved many production technical problems of key bridge projects at home and abroad.
