If the column is opened

Lower the grassroots level, change the style, solve difficult problems and promote development. The activity of the whole Federation of Trade Unions and trade union cadres from all over the country to go to the grass-roots level is in progress. The majority of trade union cadres went deep into the township streets, industrial parks, workshops and teams around the country, walked to the staff, experienced their hard work, listened to their voices, solved grass-roots problems, increased their wisdom and skills in going deep into the grassroots, and exercised their party spirit and improved their style in serving the staff. From today on, our newspaper will open a column called "Diary of Staying" to select the work diaries of trade union cadres during their stay, recording their experiences, stories and insights. Please pay attention.

Thursday, June 3 Sunny

It has been raining for days in Shanghai, but it is finally sunny today. Today's research plan is to have a case interview with the courier. We decided to go by bike sharing while the weather was good.

The previous contact with the express brother was to accept their services as a customer. Today is the first time for a trade union cadre to use field survey to understand their actual situation so as to provide services for them. The change of perspective also brings new challenges - how to quickly get closer, so that they are willing to talk to us? How can we ask our questions as soon as possible without delaying their work? Although I am worried, I believe it will be more vivid than listening to the report at the symposium.

We came to a street where express company stations are concentrated within the jurisdiction of the Federation of Trade Unions in Tangqiao Street, Pudong District. There are five or six express companies in line here, each with an area of about ten square meters. The goods are stacked on the shelves and sorted manually. It is stuffy indoors.

We walked into one of the express company sites. At this time, all the couriers went out to deliver the goods. Only the stationmaster was there. Let's talk to him first. The stationmaster has more than 20 years of experience, and now he is his own boss. He has joined a foreign express company and employed 16 couriers. Now the platform usually sends about 4000 bills a day, and the courier's salary is calculated according to the bill, so more work pays more. He hoped that the trade union would provide help in coordinating labor disputes.

After a while, several couriers came back to pick up the goods. After obtaining the consent of the station master and the courier himself, we stood in front of the shelf and began to interview the courier, so as to facilitate the courier to pick up goods at the same time.

The courier I interviewed was 35 years old, from Jiangsu, and his family were all in his hometown, wearing white T-shirts and jeans, clean and simple. He said that he worked very hard. He arrived at the company at 6:30 in the morning to collect goods. When he was not busy, he left work at 18:30. When he was busy in the second half of the year, he would not leave work until 21:00. He could only take a day or two off every month. The monthly income is about 8000 yuan to 10000 yuan, but the cost of living in Shanghai is high. After removing personal expenses of 4000 yuan or 5000 yuan, there is not much left. He didn't pay social insurance and only bought accident insurance at his own expense. Even though it was hard, his hometown had a mortgage, so he had to bite the bullet to support his family.

Speaking of this, he stopped his work and said seriously that if possible, he still hoped to change his career. I nodded and asked him what he found difficult in his work. He said that he hoped to be respected and listened to, because sometimes customers complain, even if it is not his responsibility, he will still be fined.

At this time, the webmaster came in and urged us to finish the interview in a hurry. Watching the courier leave on an electric car full of express goods, I suddenly felt that it was like his current life. He had to work hard to keep balance.

Being respected is a word I have heard repeatedly in recent research. Their sense of disrespect comes from daily work: it may be when the security guard refuses to enter the office building, or when the passenger elevator is not allowed to use but the goods elevator; They will be sensitive to the fact that they do not want to build a rest station in the building, just because they cannot adapt to the "tall" environment... These feelings are beyond imagination, and it just shows that ordinary workers are not able to meet the survival needs now, they also attach great importance to spiritual needs, and the lack of complaint will greatly affect their professional identity.

I deeply feel that the group of couriers is engaged in simple and hard work. They seem flexible but lack of work training to participate in organizational cooperation. They seem to be employed but lack the accumulation of skills. They seem free but cannot escape the reality of long working hours, strict assessment standards, and low disposable income. If there is no mechanism of consultation, discussion and decision to safeguard their basic labor rights, no organization to care about their living difficulties and emotional needs, no channels to help them improve their labor skills from a longer-term perspective to achieve higher labor value, and they may be difficult to achieve decent work, comfortable work, and comprehensive development only by personal strength. How to liberate them from the extra long working hours, guide them to use their precious youth to learn and improve technical skills, and obtain real freedom of development, should be the question we need to think about when doing trade union work.
