What to do with ships at sea before typhoon

1. Before the typhoon comes, the ship should obey the command and go to the shelter immediately.

2. In case of failing to avoid or encountering a typhoon, the relevant departments on shore shall be contacted in time to seek for rescue.

3. When waiting for rescue, emergency measures should be taken actively, and measures to leave the typhoon should be taken quickly and decisively, such as stopping (stagnation), detouring (deviation), and crossing (rapid crossing).

4. The calm of the wind and waves soon after the strong typhoon may be the calm of the typhoon eye. At this time, the ship owner of the port must not go back to reinforce the ship in order to protect his property.

5. If possible, the ship shall be equipped with modern equipment such as beacon, radio, satellite telephone, etc.

6. When there is no radio communication equipment, when a passing ship or aircraft is found, or is close to the land, objects can be used to send out a visible distress signal in a timely manner, such as stacking "SOS" words, setting off fireworks, sending optical and acoustic signals, shaking brightly colored objects, etc.

How to avoid navigation when encountering typhoon

When a ship sailing at sea encounters a typhoon, in order to avoid being involved in the typhoon center or the storm area around the center, the method of avoiding navigation is generally adopted. The ship can lose no time to change the course and speed according to the dynamics and intensity of the typhoon, so as to keep a certain distance between the ship's position and the center of the typhoon, which is outside the strong wind range of the wind level that the ship can resist.

The wind direction of the right semicircle of the typhoon is close to the movement route of the typhoon, and the wind speed of the right semicircle is greater than that of the left semicircle; And most typhoons turn right, which is easy to draw ships in the right semicircle into the center of the typhoon. Therefore, the right half circle of typhoon is called "dangerous half circle" and the left half circle is called "navigable half circle".

When a ship encounters a typhoon at sea, it shall determine its position according to the typhoon situation and dynamic forecast as well as the changes of wind, wind direction and pressure observed on the site, so as to take appropriate navigation methods and stay away from the typhoon center as soon as possible.

The method to determine the position of the ship and the navigation measures to be taken are as follows:

① The wind direction changes clockwise, the air pressure decreases continuously, and the wind force increases gradually. At this time, the ship is in the front half of the dangerous semicircle of the typhoon, that is, the danger quadrant. It should sail at full speed against the wind on the starboard side of the bow.

② The wind direction changes anticlockwise, the air pressure decreases continuously, and the wind force increases gradually. At this time, the ship is in the front half of the navigable semicircle of the typhoon, so it should sail at full speed with the starboard stern exposed to wind.

③ The wind direction remains the same, the air pressure keeps dropping, and the wind force gradually increases. At this time, the ship is on the way of typhoon, so it should sail at full speed with the starboard stern exposed to wind.
