Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference this morning. Zhu Fenglian, spokesman of the Taiwan Affairs Office, presided over the press conference.

CCTV's Cross Strait: Ma Ying jeou and his delegation's visit to the mainland recently triggered heated discussions in the island, and the call for peace and communication between the two sides has also become increasingly strong. Ma Ying jeou called on Lai Qingde to take the olive branch offered by the mainland and accept the "1992 consensus". What's your comment on this?
Zhu Fenglian: Peace rather than war, development rather than recession, exchange rather than separation, cooperation rather than confrontation are the mainstream public opinion in Taiwan. Mr. Ma Ying jeou led Taiwan youth to visit the mainland for exchange, which was in line with the mainstream public opinion of the island and the interests of Taiwan compatriots, and was widely praised. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) insisted on the separatist position of "Taiwan independence" during its term as director, interfered with and disrupted cross-strait exchanges and cooperation, and linked external forces to carry out "independence" provocations, which led to tension and turbulence in the Taiwan Strait, causing strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition from compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. Only by conforming to the popular sentiment and the trend of the times, returning to the 1992 Consensus, which embodies the one China principle, and recognizing the basic fact that both sides belong to one country and one nation, can we create favorable conditions for the peaceful development of cross Straits relations and the peace and stability of the Taiwan Straits, and provide reliable guarantees for cross Straits exchanges and cooperation and the well-being of Taiwan compatriots.
