The former residence exhibition hall of Zhang Xueliang (English: Commander Zhang's Mansion), also known as "Marshal's Mansion" or "Marshal's Mansion", is located in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. It is the official residence and private residence of Zhang Zuolin and his eldest son Zhang Xueliang.
The exhibition hall of Zhang Xueliang's former residence was built in 1914, covering a total area of 36000 square meters and a total construction area of 27600 square meters. In the fifth year of the Republic of China (1916), Zhang Zuolin officially moved in, and then continued to expand, gradually forming a building system consisting of four parts, namely, the East Courtyard, the Middle Courtyard, the West Courtyard and the buildings outside the Courtyard. Various architectural styles are different, including Chinese traditional style, Chinese Western style, Roman style, Nordic style and Japanese style. There are mainly big brothels, small brothels, west courtyard red mansions and Miss Zhao's building.
In the late 20th century, the "Exhibition Hall of Zhang Xueliang's Former Residence" was listed as the national outstanding modern architecture group. In 1985, the Shenyang Municipal People's Government announced this building group as a municipal cultural relics protection unit under the title of "Zhang Xueliang's Former Residence Exhibition Hall". In 1988, the Liaoning Provincial Government also announced it as a provincial cultural relics protection unit under the name of "Exhibition Hall of Zhang Xueliang's Former Residence". In 1996, the State Council announced that the former residence of Zhang Xueliang was the fourth batch of key cultural relics under national protection. In 1998, Liaoning Province set up the "Exhibition Hall of Zhang Xueliang's Former Residence" here. [1] In 2002, it was renamed as Zhang's Mansion Museum and Liaoning Modern History Museum.
The Exhibition Hall of Zhang Xueliang's Former Residence is the best preserved former residence of celebrities in Northeast China, and is a national key cultural relics protection unit. On December 2, 2017, it was included in the second batch of China's 20th century architectural heritage list.
