On the same day, the first session of the new National Assembly was held in Cape Town, the legislative capital of South Africa. The newly elected members voted for the President after electing the Speaker and Vice Speaker. After counting the votes, South Africa Chief Justice Zongduo, who presided over the meeting, announced that Ramaphosa had obtained 283 votes. According to the voting results, Ramaphosa was elected President of South Africa.

Ramaphosa said in a speech after his election that the South African people expect all political parties to work together within the constitutional framework to maintain social stability, address poverty, inequality, unemployment and other challenges, build a democratic society based on peace, justice, without racism and gender discrimination, and achieve national prosperity. As President of South Africa, he will be committed to achieving this goal.

According to the Constitution of South Africa, the President is elected by members of parliament for a term of five years. According to the plan, Ramaphosa will be sworn in on the 19th in the administrative capital Pretoria.

In the South African National Assembly election held on May 29, the ANC won 159 of the 400 seats in the National Assembly, maintaining its position as the largest party in the National Assembly. Since it failed to obtain more than half of the seats of the National Assembly, the ANC had to seek unity with other political parties. The South African Broadcasting Corporation reported on the 14th that the ANC and the Democratic Alliance, the largest opposition party, had reached an agreement on the formation of a national unity government.

Ramaphosa, now 71 years old, was elected as the President of the African National Congress in December 2017 and re elected in December 2022. In February 2018, the then President Zuma of South Africa announced his resignation, and the then Vice President Ramaphosa became the new President of South Africa. In May 2019, the ANC led by Lamaphosa won the general election, and Lamaphosa was later elected president.
