On May 20, Wujiang District held a media briefing to report the environmental quality of Wujiang District in 2023, and released the background survey results of biodiversity in Wujiang District for the first time.

In 2023, the quality of drinking water source in Wujiang District will meet the Class III water standard in the Environmental Quality Standard for Surface Water (GB3838-2002). 206944543 tons of water will be taken in the whole year, with a 100% compliance rate; In terms of water environment quality, the water quality compliance rate of five national examination sections of surface water environment quality is 100%, and that of 11 provincial examination sections is 100%; In terms of air environment quality, the average annual concentration of PM2.5 is 30 micrograms/m3, and the ratio of days with good air quality is 79.7%.

In the early stage, Wujiang Ecological Environment Bureau took the lead to carry out the background survey of biodiversity, and the survey results have passed the expert review organized by the Provincial Ecological Environment Department. Through investigation, the current situation of biodiversity in the region was basically found out, and the species diversity catalogue was completed. In this round, 1334 kinds of organisms were investigated in Wujiang District, including 567 kinds of vascular plants, 258 kinds of terrestrial vertebrates (6 kinds of amphibians, 13 kinds of reptiles, 228 kinds of birds, 11 kinds of mammals), 215 kinds of terrestrial insects, 294 kinds of aquatic organisms (41 kinds of fish, 122 kinds of phytoplankton, 63 kinds of zooplankton, 68 kinds of benthos).

According to the analysis of the survey results, there are three main highlights of Wujiang's biodiversity: first, more rare and endangered species and national key protected species "take root" in Wujiang. According to the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species and the Chinese Red List of Biodiversity, a total of 52 rare and endangered species were investigated in Wujiang District. According to the List of National Key Protected Wild Animals and the List of National Key Protected Wild Plants (No. 3 in 2021), there are 48 species of national key protected wild animals and plants distributed in Wujiang District; Second, the raptors at the top of the food chain "collectively settled down" in Wujiang. This round of background investigation and observation recorded that there were 20 species of raptors in Wujiang District. Previously, there were about 20 species of raptors observed and recorded in Jiangsu Province, and Wujiang District basically covered most of the species of raptors in the province. Third, butterflies with high environmental sensitivity "fly in groups". There are 34 butterfly species in the wetland ecosystem of the province, and 32 species have been observed and recorded in this round of background survey.

In the next step, Wujiang District will continue to tap the potential of biodiversity conservation, explore new ideas for enterprises and the public to participate in biodiversity conservation on the basis of strengthening natural ecological restoration, blaze an innovative development path for biodiversity conservation in areas with developed industries and dense population, and continue to polish the ecological background of the Yangtze River Delta Integrated Demonstration Area.
