[Teacher Wang] This is a remark made by Ju Zhi, the leader of Jiang Rong, when Fan Xuanzi of the Jin State met with doctors from various countries in Xiangdi. This is the story of Jin State and Qin State's crusade against Zheng State.

[Teacher Wang] This allusion means to attack the enemy. It used to mean attacking the enemy from two sides. Now it is used to refer to the situation of dividing forces to contain the enemy or support each other.
[Moderator] Mr. Wang, what's the matter with the battle of Yaoshan?
[Teacher Wang] B.C In 630, Duke Wen of Jin united with the State of Qin to crusade against the State of Zheng. The State of Zheng sent Zhu Zhiwu to persuade the Duke Mu of Qin. The people of the State of Qin secretly made an alliance with the State of Zheng, withdrew their troops quietly, and placed defenders in the State of Zheng, so the battle of Yaoshan took place.
[Host] Could you tell us the story of this allusion in detail?
[Teacher Wang] BC In 627, Jin and Qin fought in Yaoshan. The Jin army attacked in the front, and the Rong people resisted in the back. The Jin army and the Rong people worked closely together up and down the mountain to form a corner and defeat the Qin army. The reason why the Qin army never came back was that the State of Jin and the people of Jiang Rong put the State of Qin into a defeat.
[Host] Fan Xuanzi of the State of Jin accused the soldiers of disobedience to the State of Jin, of not allowing him to join the alliance, and of arresting Juzhi, the leader of Jiang Rong. Koji repeatedly defended, what did he say?
[Teacher Wang] Juzhi said that in all previous battles of the Jin State, we soldiers actively participated, just like our hearts in the war of Yaoshan, how dare we disobey the Jin State. Now there are some doctors in the State of Jin who are afraid that they can't do anything, which makes the princes eccentric and less united. How can we blame our soldiers! The food and clothes of our military people are different from those of the Chinese people. We have different etiquette and different words. How can we do bad things?

[Teacher Wang] After hearing Rong people's excuses, Fan Xuanzi expressed understanding and apologized, so he let Jiang Rong leader join the feudal lords' union and participate in affairs, thus achieving his reputation as an approachable gentleman.
