Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, May 15 (Reporter Dong Xue) In response to the recent statements made by US officials denigrating the authority of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, hyping the so-called "Taiwan's status is still uncertain", Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a regular press conference on the 15th that the relevant statements were totally a distortion of the facts and a falsification of history, The trampling on international law and the basic norms of international relations is also a betrayal of the United States' own commitments.

"Taiwan has been a part of China since ancient times, which is both a historical fact and an international consensus." Wang Wenbin said that the Cairo Declaration in 1943 and the Potsdam Declaration in 1945 clearly stipulated that Taiwan, the Chinese territory stolen by Japan, should be returned to China. These documents with international legal effect constituted an integral part of the post-war international order, It also legally confirmed that Taiwan is an inalienable territory of China.

Wang Wenbin said that on October 25, 1971, the 26th UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758 by an overwhelming majority, which solved the issue of China's representation in the United Nations, including Taiwan, politically, legally and procedurally, and made it clear that there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is a part of China, not a country, It is clear that China has only one seat in the United Nations, and the Government of the People's Republic of China is the only legal representative. There is no "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan".

He pointed out that the United States is a signatory to the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Declaration, and clearly stated in the three Sino US joint communiques that "the Government of the United States of America recognizes China's position that there is only one China and Taiwan is a part of China". American leaders have also repeatedly promised not to support "Taiwan independence", "two Chinas", "one China, one Taiwan". However, in recent years, the United States has openly questioned and misinterpreted General Assembly resolution 2758, constantly falsified and hollowed out the one China principle, and vigorously advocated Taiwan's participation in the United Nations system, which only sovereign countries can participate in. It runs counter to the commitment made by the United States and is a reversal of history.

"The fallacy of the US side in distorting and slandering UN General Assembly resolution 2758, as well as the" non binding force "of the Security Council resolution 2728, which the US side publicly claimed to require an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, are all manifestations of the US's compliance with international law and the basic norms of international relations, and are symbols of hegemonism." Wang Wenbin said.

He said that the era of hegemony and power dominating international relations is gone forever. It is wishful thinking for any country, including the United States, to challenge General Assembly resolution 2758 and the one China principle. Before the adoption of General Assembly resolution 2758 by an overwhelming majority, the United States had thrown out the so-called "dual representation" proposal in an attempt to create "two Chinas" and "one China, one Taiwan", which eventually became a repealed case.

"Today, if the United States wants to go against the trend of the times and play the 'Taiwan card' and engage in 'Taiwan based China', it will only encounter greater failure," said Wang Wenbin.
