The Development Research Center of the State Council held the 40th China Japan Economic Knowledge Exchange Conference

10:43, October 26, 2023

On October 23, the 40th China Japan Economic Knowledge Exchange Conference was successfully held in Beijing. Lu Hao, chief representative of China, director of the Development Research Center of the State Council and secretary of the Party Leadership Group, and Junyan Fukui, chief representative of Japan, chairman of Canon Global Strategy Institute and former president of Bank of Japan, attended and delivered speeches. Representatives of the two sides held practical and in-depth discussions on topics such as "the global economic situation and the economic development of China and Japan", "dealing with the problem of fewer children and aging", "carbon neutrality and sustainable development".

Lu Hao said that last year China and Japan jointly celebrated the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations. President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Takeo Kishida exchanged congratulatory messages and met, reaching important consensus on working together to build a constructive and stable China Japan relationship that meets the requirements of the new era. This year, the two sides ushered in the 45th anniversary of the conclusion of the Sino Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship.

Lu Hao pointed out that the strength of the current global economic recovery is still insufficient. China and Japan are the world's second and third largest economies. The close cooperation between the two countries will certainly help promote global trade and investment recovery, supply chain stability and financial stability, and inject endogenous power and stability into the global economic recovery and the common development of the two countries. China Japan cooperation has a good foundation and broad space. As President Xi Jinping pointed out, China and Japan share many common interests and space for cooperation, and the two economies are highly interdependent. We should strengthen dialogue and cooperation in digital economy, green development, finance, medical care and pension, and maintaining the stability and smoothness of the industrial chain supply chain, so as to achieve a higher level of complementary advantages and mutual benefit. Since this year, China's economy has continued to recover from the impact of the epidemic, and the fundamentals of maintaining reasonable and sustainable growth have not changed. At the opening ceremony of the third "Belt and Road" International Cooperation Summit Forum held recently, President Xi Jinping announced that China will completely eliminate restrictions on foreign investment access in the manufacturing sector, which will continue to provide huge markets and development opportunities for Japanese enterprises.

Lu Hao said that the China Japan Economic Knowledge Exchange Conference in the new era should adhere to the principle of integrity and contribute more development knowledge. For the exchange meeting, integrity means adhering to China Japan friendship, honestly learning from each other, and innovation means giving the exchange meeting new connotation and value of the times, closer to the current economic and social development needs of China and Japan, and harvesting new insights that serve the common development of both countries.

Toshihiko Fukui said that economic globalization cannot go backwards, nor will it go backwards. In the face of new risks and challenges, countries should strengthen policy communication and coordinate their development interests. China and Japan are close neighbors separated by a strip of water. They face many common issues of the times in dealing with the problem of fewer children, aging, and promoting the green transformation of economy and society. It is necessary for the two countries, especially the young people of the two countries, to establish the awareness of cooperation to build the future and play a positive role.

Zhang Laiming, Deputy Director of the Development Research Center of the State Council, presided over the opening ceremony and made a summary of the meeting. Representatives from relevant research departments of the Development Research Center of the State Council, the Ministry of Finance of China, the State owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission and Minmetals Group attended the meeting. The meeting was attended by the chairman of the Japan Internet Initiative Corporation and former subordinate official of the Ministry of Finance, Katsuhiro Katsuma, chairman of the board of directors of the Japan Exchange Group, former chairman of the Policy Investment Bank and former subordinate official of the Ministry of Finance, Yasuhisa Kishita, chairman of the Japan China Economic Association, and representatives from the Japanese Embassy in China and more than 10 Japanese enterprises.
