Major Cultural Projects Concerned by General Secretary

typeface: Small in large

The Chinese nation has gone through ups and downs, and has been regarded as a great cause to benefit all generations since ancient times.

General Secretary Xi Jinping once said: "In this era, the country is prosperous, the society is safe and stable, and we have the will and ability to inherit the national culture. We should do a good job of this event." From now on, Xinhua News Agency launched a series of fusion reports of "major cultural projects concerned by the general secretary", telling the vivid story behind the "prosperous times to revise", Comprehend the profound cultural feelings of General Secretary Xi Jinping.

Ru Zang is a basic cultural construction project that systematically collates the Confucian classics at home and abroad on the largest scale since the founding of New China. It is divided into two steps: the "essence compilation" of Ru Zang and the compilation of the whole book of Ru Zang.

Confucianism is the cornerstone of Chinese traditional culture and has a profound impact on world civilization. However, for thousands of years, there has never been a complete collection of Confucian works. Although some people in the Ming and Qing dynasties proposed to compile Ruzang, it was not implemented because of the huge project.

At the beginning of this century, Tang Yijie, a professor in the Department of Philosophy of Peking University, proposed to compile Confucianism, which was supported by Ji Xianlin, Zhang Dainian and other scholars. In 2003, the project of "Compilation and Research of Confucianism" was officially established, and Tang Yijie was the chief expert of the project.

In May 2014, General Secretary Xi Jinping paid a special visit to Professor Tang Yijie when he visited Peking University, talked with him and cared about the compilation of Ru Zang. The General Secretary asked Mr. Tang about his difficulties and needs, and praised his diligent and rigorous scholarship.

Up to now, nearly 500 experts and scholars from nearly 100 universities and research institutions at home and abroad have participated in the cause of Confucianism, and nearly 100 scholars from South Korea, Japan and Vietnam, which were deeply influenced by Confucianism in history, have joined in.

Wang Bo, now vice president of Peking University, once studied under Professor Tang Yijie. After Mr. Tang passed away in 2014, Wang Bo took over as the chief expert and project leader of Ru Zang. At the forum on cultural inheritance and development held in June 2023, Wang Bo reported to General Secretary Xi Jinping on the theme of "inheriting Chinese civilization and promoting the compilation and research of the whole book of Confucianism".

At present, 282 volumes of the "quintessence compilation" of the 510 kinds in China have been sorted out and published by Peking University Press, with a total number of nearly 200 million words. The Ministry of South Korea, the Ministry of Japan and the Ministry of Vietnam are advancing. The main part of the "Essence Compilation" of Ruzang has been successfully completed, and the compilation of the whole Ruzang has started.

Only by not forgetting history can we open up the future, and only by being good at inheritance can we be good at innovation. In the new era, the compilation and research of the full version of "Confucian Collection" will be promoted, which will be deeply consistent with the spirit of the times of inheriting and carrying forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture, and will help build the modern civilization of the Chinese nation.
