The Department of Schistosomiasis of Jiaxing First Hospital has always been a key specialty in Jiaxing. After years of efforts, it was approved by the Provincial Health Department as the second batch of provincial key supporting disciplines in 2001. At present, the department is the only specialized department in Zhejiang Province that integrates schistosomiasis prevention, treatment, scientific research and management, and has a certain popularity inside and outside the province.

Since the 1950s, he has been undertaking the diagnosis, treatment and scientific research of schistosomiasis in Jiaxing, and has rich clinical experience in schistosomiasis control. Under the leadership of schistosomiasis expert and old dean Zhou Xuezhang (the late), he has made remarkable achievements and has great influence in the country.

After Jiaxing Schistosomiasis Prevention and Control Institute was incorporated into Jiaxing First Hospital in 1992, the Clinical Research Office of Schistosomiasis and the Management Office of Advanced Schistosomiasis (referred to as the Late Blood Office) were established. At that time, Wu Wenlin, a member of the Provincial Research Committee on Schistosomiasis and the chief physician, was appointed as the director of the department, and specialized schistosomiasis wards and clinics were reopened. Since 2007, chief physician Wu Yiming has served as the department director. Continue to undertake various tasks such as diagnosis and treatment of schistosomiasis in five counties and two districts, diagnosis and treatment of difficult and difficult patients inside and outside the province, imported suspected schistosomiasis patients, clinical identification and consultation of late blood, and epidemic report of suspected cases. The department has five study groups: prevention, clinical (internal and surgical), B-ultrasound, pathology, and laboratory. At present, there are six chief physicians and nine deputy chief physicians.

Through the efforts of several generations, he has won one national invention award and 21 scientific and technological achievements awards in schistosomiasis prevention and control. In recent years, the provincial cooperative scientific research project "Research on Late Schistosomiasis and Biochemistry" won the second prize of 1992 Scientific and Technological Progress Award of the provincial government; "Research on the Practical Value of Ultrasonic Diagnosis in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Schistosomiasis Japonicum" won the 1997 Science and Technology Progress Excellence Award of the provincial government and the third prize of the scientific and technological achievements of the provincial health department. The "Long term Follow up Study on Praziquantel in the Treatment of Schistosomiasis Japonicum" project was identified by the relevant experts of schistosomiasis organized by the provincial health department and believed that it filled the gaps at home and abroad and reached the international advanced level, The project won the second prize of 1998 scientific and technological achievements of the provincial health department. The project of "the influence of late schistosomiasis splenomegaly and liver fibrosis degree on immune function" won the second prize of Jiaxing Science and Technology Progress Award in 2004. The project "Clinical Research on the Development Mechanism and Prevention of Schistosomiasis Japonica Hepatic Fibrosis" was reviewed and studied by experts at the beginning of 2007, and it was believed that this achievement has reached the domestic leading and international advanced level of similar research. At present, the application for award has won the second prize of 2006 Science and Technology Innovation Award from the Provincial Health Department and the first prize of Jiaxing Science and Technology Progress Award. In recent years, we have conducted in-depth research on non-invasive detection of liver fibrosis, invented a simplified diagnostic index formula, and obtained research results in the application of isotopes in the diagnosis of liver cirrhosis. The treatment of varicose veins under endoscope has become the characteristic advantage project of our hospital, and the combination of double mirrors for the treatment of varicose veins won the scientific research bid of Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Department in 2016. The undergraduate has published more than 200 papers, participated in more than 10 international exchanges, and edited and published an album on schistosomiasis in 2003.

Since 1998, the department has undertaken three sessions of the national continuing education project "New Progress in Schistosomiasis Control" classes for three consecutive years. In September 2003, the National Continuing Education Project "Academic Conference on the Progress of Prevention and Treatment of Schistosomiasis Liver Fibrosis" was organized and held, and the "Seminar on Diagnosis and Treatment of Schistosomiasis Liver Fibrosis" was entrusted by the Schistosomiasis Expert Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Health.
