Total Energies, together with its partners Petronas and Sonangol, have conducted FID on the Kaminho oil project in Angola offshore block 20/11. This will be the first large-scale deepwater development project in the Kwanza Basin, which will produce oil in the Cameia and Golfinho oil fields 100 kilometers offshore and 1700 meters deep. This will also be the seventh FPSO operated by Total Energy in Angola waters. It is planned to convert a super large crude oil carrier into a floating production, storage and unloading ship and connect it with the undersea production network. In order to minimize emissions, the platform will be fully powered by electricity, and associated gas will be fully reinjected into the reservoir, so there will be no conventional combustion. Total Energy expects the project to be put into production in 2028, with a maximum daily output of 70000 barrels. The company has awarded Saipem three major contracts with a total value of US $3.7 billion. The first contract covers the engineering, procurement, construction, transportation and commissioning of the FPSO. According to the second contract, Saipem will use its experience of other three FPSOs currently operating in Angola to provide 12 years of operation and maintenance services for the ship, which may be extended for eight years. The third contract involves engineering, procurement, supply, construction, installation, pre commissioning and assistance in commissioning/start-up of a SURF package, which includes 8 inch and 10 inch subsea pipelines, risers and umbilicals about 30 kilometers long. Saipem will manufacture the structures at its local plant in Ambriz. For offshore operations including J-lay, the company will deploy its FDS vessels to carry out logistics and manufacturing activities using the local supply chain. Total Energy and Sonangol EP also signed a memorandum of understanding. The two sides will cooperate in research and technology, especially in decarbonization of the oil and gas industry, including methane emission reduction and renewable energy development. The company's team will help Sonangol EP start and operate its new Sumbe R&D center, and develop skills in reservoir geology, process electrification and photovoltaic technology.
