Since the birth of the "game god U" Sharp Dragon 7 5800X3D, AMD has successively launched a number of processors that use 3D V-Cache cache. On CES 2024, AMD officially released a new Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D desktop processor, and its three-level cache increased from 32MB of Sharp Dragon 7 5700X to 96MB. As an X3D series processor on the AM4 platform, the positioning of the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D is more mainstream. Can it also play the role of "God U" like the Sharp Dragon 7 5800X3D?

Thanks to AMD 3D V-Cache technology, massive cache improves game performance

Generally speaking, there are three ways to significantly improve the performance of the processor. The most direct way is to increase the operating frequency of the processor. The second way is to improve the performance due to the upgrade of the processor architecture. The third way is to increase the cache capacity of the processor. The third method is the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D solution, that is, by significantly improving the L3 cache and other large capacity caches, to reduce the number of times the CPU accesses the main memory, thereby improving the processing speed and response time, which is very beneficial for games and other scenarios that need a lot of data access.

Like the Sharp Dragon 7 5800X3D, the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D uses the AMD 3D V-Cahce cache technology, which stacks 7nm SRAM on the CCD of the processor, increasing the L3 cache capacity of each CCD from 32MB to 96MB, which is three times the original capacity. It is connected to the original three-level cache through TSV silicon perforation, hybrid bonding, and two signal interfaces, and transmits data with each processor core through a shared ring bus added to the three-level cache. In addition, 3D V-Cahce is designed as a slice. Each block has a capacity of 8MB, and there are eight blocks in total. The internal bandwidth of each block exceeds 2TB/s, This makes the data bandwidth of 3D V-Cache completely comparable to the native L3 cache, thus providing extremely high performance.

In terms of specifications, the base frequency and acceleration frequency of the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D are 400MHz and 500MHz lower than those of the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X, while the three-level cache is increased to 96MB. Although the frequency is reduced, the performance benefit of the super large L3 cache with doubled capacity is significantly higher than the impact of frequency adjustment. In contrast to the Core i5 14600K, the three-tier cache capacity of the Ruilong 7 5700X3D is four times that of the former. In addition, the Ruilong 7 5700X3D uses a full core design, which has two more cores than the Core i5 14600K, and will have more advantages in performance scheduling when running games. In addition, the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D with a 7nm process is also better at power consumption control, with a TDP of only 105W. Next, let's take a look at the actual performance of the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D!

Game practice: Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D leads i5 14600K by 12%

Test platform

Processor: Ruilong 7 5700X3D

Core i5 14600K

Radiator: ROG Longshen Generation 2 360 ARGB

Main board: ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero

Memory: Yuzhan DDR4 3200 8GB × 4

Graphics card: Sapphire RX 6750 GRE 12G D6 polar version

Hard disk: WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB

Power supply: ROG THOR Raytheon 1200W Platinum II

Operating system: Windows 11 Professional Edition

In the test part, we used DDR4 3200 6GB × 4 memory, and upgraded the BIOS of the motherboard to the latest version. In contrast, the Core i5 14600K is matched with the Z790 motherboard and DDR5 6000 16GB × 2 memory. ResizeBAR support is enabled in the motherboard BIOS, and EXPO/XMP is enabled in the memory. In terms of other hardware, both processors use the ROG Dragon God Generation 2 360 ARGB heat sink, and the graphics card is equipped with the Sapphire RX 6750 GRE 12G D6 polar version.

Next, we selected 13 representative popular online games and 3A games for testing. First, take a look at the online game of E-sports. Among the three games of APEX, CS2 and DOTA2, the average frame rate of the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D is 14600K higher than that of the Core i5, with a maximum lead of about 12%. In the 3A game part, the performance of the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D and the Core i5 14600K is comparable. Both processors are 1% ahead of each other in three games, and the average frame rate difference is less than 2fps. To sum up, when using the RX 6750 GRE 12GB graphics card, the Reelung 7 5700X3D has an average performance lead of about 6% over the Core i5 14600K in e-sports online games. This advantage is very obvious. In terms of 3A games, the performance of the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D and the Core i5 14600K is almost the same, which is enough to show that the high frequency of the Core i5 14600K 5.3GHz and the additional eight small cores do not have much advantage in front of the AMD 3D V-Cache super cache dedicated to improving game performance.

Power consumption and temperature test

In terms of power consumption, the TDP power consumption of the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D is 105W. How about the actual power performance? According to the actual measurement of Cinebench R23 test machine, the full load packaging power of the Ruilong 7 5700X3D is only 94W, while the packaging power of the Core i5 14600K is 179W, almost twice that of the Ruilong 7 5700X3D. In terms of temperature, when both processors use ROG Longshen Generation 2 360 ARGB water-cooled cooling, the full load temperature of the Ruilong 7 5700X3D is only 74 ℃, and there is no heat accumulation problem caused by the addition of 3D V-Cache. The full load temperature of the Core i5 14600K reaches 93 ℃.

Core i5 14600K

In terms of actual game power, the power of the Reeve 7 5700X3D is less than 50W, and the power of the Core i5 14600K is close to 80W, 60% higher than the Reeve 7 5700X3D. The excellent performance of the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D in energy consumption ratio means that players have less pressure in choosing power supply, motherboard and radiator. The full load temperature is less than 75 ℃. Mainstream hundred yuan air cooling and integrated water cooling can be easily suppressed. At the same time, the fan noise is less when playing the game, bringing a better experience.

Summary: One generation vs. four generations, and the first choice for AM4 platform upgrade is the Reelung 7 5700X3D

As a new processor of the AM4 platform launched in 2024, the positioning of the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D is very accurate. The AMD 3D V-Cache technology brings 100 megabyte super large three-level cache to achieve excellent game performance. To be specific, when the Ruilong 7 5700X3D is paired with a mid-range dessert card such as the Sapphire RX 6750 GRE 12G D6 Polar Edition, the performance of its e-sports online game is more than 6% better than that of its competitor, the Core i5 14600K. The performance of the 3A game is the same as that of the Core i5 14600K, and the comprehensive game performance is better than that of the Core i5 14600K. Indeed, the Zen 3 architecture processor has achieved "one generation vs. four generations".

The Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D is also very outstanding in terms of cost performance, which is nearly 1000 yuan cheaper than competing products. At the same time, considering that the requirements for power supply and radiator of the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D itself are very relaxed, players who want to upgrade their old AM4 platform almost do not have to pay additional costs. From the perspective of platform cost, the Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D is worth considering. The Sharp Dragon 7 5700X3D will be officially launched at 10:00 p.m. on January 31. The first flash sale price of the processor is only 1599 yuan. Players who need to upgrade can pay more attention.
