When metal pigments form a thin layer on the surface of printed matter, it will produce a high gloss of gold or silver ink layer. If the metal sheet component of the ink or the additive of the color ink changes, the color range of the gold ink will change from red to golden yellow. Metal or silver inks have a long shelf life and will not lose their luster even if stored in containers for one year. However, the metal ink in the Metal Color Manual is not very stable, but should be used as soon as possible after purchase or preparation. When preparing metal ink, softer object particles are used.
Therefore, the metal sheet in the ink can form a thin metal foil or be laid on the surface of a single printing material as far as possible to obtain the maximum gloss. Metal ink has low viscosity and is suitable for printing between inks. Coated paper has good fixed ink absorption performance, so the ink on the printing is the brightest. Smooth uncoated paper will also have a better effect, but the glossiness will decrease slightly. The paper with rough surface prevents small metal ink particles from forming metal foil on the paper surface, thus reducing the printing effect of metal ink. Some bearing materials, especially pond porcelain products used for polishing and clay coating, usually only absorb the ink in the ink and leave metal pigment particles on the surface because they do not have enough adhesion to firmly fix the ink on the surface of bearing materials. This phenomenon, called powder, will cause the metal color to fall off from the surface of the bearing material. In order to prevent the occurrence of pulverization, the amount of water should be set to the minimum, because ink with high saturation of water is easier to pulverize. When printing on the surface of high coated paper or pond porcelain, an appropriate amount of desiccant should be added to the ink.
Before using gold or silver ink, a transparent upper sealing coating is usually used. If the powder phenomenon has occurred, printing another layer of ink on the first layer of surface will often make up for this error. Adding ink can also overcome the powder, but this usually reduces the luster of the metal. Skill: For best results, it is recommended to use a metal version instead of electrostatic printing, which can avoid excessive glycerin or glycol, because these nonvolatile liquid media will slow the drying rate. The opacity of the metal ink will cause the operator to overcompensate the ink, resulting in ink imbalance. This situation should be avoided as far as possible, because it will bring too much burden to the touch up system, resulting in sticking (the ink particles in the touch up liquid are emulsified) and dirt (the ink sticks to the non picture part of the printing plate). Even experienced printers should use too much ink to achieve the most perfect metal effect.
The best way to prevent these failures is to add ink to a shallow image so that it attaches to the image. Then, increase the ink level and slightly adjust the image to avoid ink supply. The thin layer of metal will stand out during the drying process, providing bright luster.
