About the Tianmu Festival

The sixth day of the sixth month of the lunar calendar is the traditional Chinese festival of the day of natural awakening. The name of Taoism originated late. Huai'an people have the custom of drying red and green on June 6. It is said that the custom of "drying red and green on June 6" originated in the Tang Dynasty. Xuanzang, an eminent monk of the Tang Dynasty, took Buddhist scriptures from the West (India) and returned home. When he crossed the sea, the scriptures were soaked in seawater, and he took them out to dry on the sixth day of June. Later, this day became a lucky day. At first, the emperor's dragon robes were dried in the imperial palace on this day, and then spread to the people from the palace. Every family exposed their clothes in front of the gate on this day, which became a common practice later.

On the sixth day of June, the Song Dynasty called it the day of natural recognition. It was said that it was the birthday of Dayu, and it should be an attachment. Because people did not celebrate their lives in ancient times, they were afraid of being hated and defeated. Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty set his birthday as the Qianqiu Festival, which was the first time in the tradition. But until the Qing Dynasty, the "Longevity Day" of the emperor's birthday was a fake day, and the truth would never be revealed. The sixth day of June is also called the "Tianqi Festival (Aunt's Day)", which originated in the Song Dynasty. Zhao Heng, the Emperor Zhenzong of the Song Dynasty, was a very superstitious emperor. One June 6, he claimed that God had given him a book from heaven and asked the people to believe his nonsense. He decided that this day was the Day of God and built a grand Temple of God at the foot of Mount Tai. With the passage of time, the "Tianfu Festival" has lost its original meaning, while the custom of turning red and green still exists.
