be careful! Mexico's National Truck Driver Strike Causes Road Congestion

Date: November 2, 2019 Source: Industry News Hits: 605

It is understood that on the 29th, Mexican truck drivers held a nationwide strike, and many highways were blocked, resulting in traffic congestion.

The truck strike in Mexico caused traffic jams across the country. According to the statement of the Mexican Transport Organization Alliance, the strike will threaten to block the main highways in 32 Mexican states, and will stop and enlarge the caravan at the main entrance to Mexico City in Puebla, Morelos, Hidalgo, Cretaro and Mexico.
The Transport Organization Alliance said that since it had not received a formal response from the government at any level before, it hoped to force the federal government to meet a series of requirements through the general strike, including banning the use of double trailers, reducing tolls and gasoline prices, improving the safety of the country's roads and reducing trailer fees.
Protests took place in at least 22 states on the 29th (Tuesday). Some expressways are blocked, but in many cases, drivers park trucks and buses at the roadside in a non operational state. The striking drivers also asked the government to provide more truck driver licenses, improve the safety of national roads, eliminate the high fees charged for trailer services, subsidize the replacement of trucks, and eliminate the abuse of power by federal and state police.
On the 30th, Ricardo Peralta, Vice Minister of the Secretariat of the Mexican Ministry of Internal Affairs, participated in the first round of negotiations with the Mexican Transport Organization Alliance. In order to formulate a national agenda to respond to the requirements of truck drivers for more than 10 years and deal with issues involving all operators, six other federal transport organizations in the country will also participate in the negotiations. Peralta then said: "All the strike actions that may cause roadblocks have been canceled. The strike is over." The strike that lasted for more than 10 years has been settled through one day of negotiations? Is this really over? The lorry drivers in Puebla even said that they would continue to strike if there was no reply from the government.
Royal Logistics reminds that if there is a small partner going to Mexico recently, please pay close attention to the development of the situation, and be alert to the soaring freight and cargo delay caused by the strike!
