Unmanned distribution, an imaginative logistics track, continues to attract major enterprises. Recently, Fengchao Technology revealed that the company has innovatively launched a UAV docking cabinet, which can achieve all-weather automated distribution with UAVs, effectively improving delivery efficiency and reducing human costs. At present, the UAV docking cabinet has been piloted in Shenzhen Bao'an Shiyan, and will officially enter into commercial application.

24-hour non-stop service with UAV

It is reported that Fengchao UAV docking cabinet has applied multiple key technologies such as UAV docking correction system, automatic sorting system, cloud control system, etc. When the UAV carrying goods reaches above the docking cabinet, the docking cabinet will automatically open the top cover device through intelligent IOT sensing. Automatic calibration of UAV descent, seamless docking, and automatic delivery of "machine"+"cabinet". After receiving the pickup code, the recipient can flexibly arrange time to go to the docking cabinet for pickup.

Compared with ordinary express containers, the UAV docking container supports the temporary storage and circulation of a variety of goods, supports a variety of UAV models, can operate 24 hours a day, take off and land at high frequencies, and is configured with 19 cargo slots in total to support high cargo throughput. It also has functions such as ultra-high detection of cargo boxes, overweight detection of packages, and automatic flow of package information.

Xiong Guanghui, the person in charge of Fengchao Unmanned Delivery Project, told the reporter that its UAV docking cabinet has started pilot application in Shenzhen, which is located in Fengyi UAV Operation Center in Shiyan, Bao'an. At present, it is mainly used in the transportation of aviation parts. Through the cooperation with Fengyi and the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, packages can be transported from the SF Express outlets to the operation center in an uninterrupted and efficient manner on a shift basis. "At present, we are cooperating with Fengyi to try out some scenarios and verify the business model. We hope to find out some problems faced by real applications during the pilot process and solve them in a targeted way so as to achieve a better landing of the product. In the future, we plan to take the Shenzhen pilot as a sample and gradually promote it to other cities".

It will further reduce the cost of logistics unmanned distribution

The reporter learned that in practice, the delivery cabinet adapted to UAVs has been applied to the ground. As of August this year, Meituan has landed a total of 17 routes in Shenzhen, Shanghai and other cities, which can provide drone distribution services for 14 community office buildings and 4 5A level scenic spots. At the end of the chain, its drone distribution is completed with the help of 17 "intelligent airdrop cabinets" similar to express cabinet devices. According to Meituan's statistics, the average distribution time of UAVs in 2022 will be about 12 minutes, which will improve the efficiency by nearly 150% compared with the traditional distribution mode, saving users nearly 30000 hours of waiting time.

Xiong Guanghui pointed out that at present, UAV transportation has been applied in many logistics scenarios, and UAV docking cabinet is an extension of intelligent express cabinet in the field of low altitude logistics, and an important link in the construction of low altitude automated logistics distribution network infrastructure. On the whole, the low altitude economy, as a new type of economic business, is still in the early stage of development and needs to grow through exploration.

In his opinion, the addition of UAV transport to the UAV docking cabinet can further reduce airport ground staff, reduce its distribution and operation costs, improve the stability and efficiency of delivery, and improve the user experience. Previously, Fengchao has been deeply involved in the end logistics field for many years and accumulated rich experience in the end industry. Its UAV docking cabinet can be connected with the logistics network and the existing express delivery system, which requires complex data transmission and logistics system integration.

The reporter learned that the maximum load of the UAV that Fengchao UAV docking cabinet can support at present has reached 10kg, which means that it can also serve the express transportation of large pieces to a certain extent.

Prospects are promising, rapid promotion still has challenges

The rapidly expanding UAV distribution market makes the application prospect of Fengchao UAV docking cabinet more imaginative.

In February 2022, the Civil Aviation Administration of China issued the "14th Five Year Plan" Special Plan for Aviation Logistics Development. The plan proposes to give full play to the advantages of UAV logistics cost and efficiency, expand the UAV trunk branch connection distribution network in areas with poor transportation, improve regional quick distribution and instant service, and explore and promote the pilot of general aviation logistics in appropriate areas. With the rapid development of express enterprise technology, it is predicted that in 2040, UAV distribution may account for 30% of the parcel delivery volume.

Shenzhen has become a pioneer in the development of low altitude economy in China. The city has more than 1500 UAV enterprises such as Dajiang Innovation and Shunfeng Fengyi Technology. The annual output value will reach 75 billion yuan in 2022, accounting for 70% of the country. Shunfeng, Meituan, etc. have realized the normal operation of UAV distribution in Shenzhen, and the distribution routes cover various scenes such as business districts, communities, scenic spots, office buildings, hospitals, etc. According to the prediction of Shenzhen UAV Industry Association, by 2024, the UAV market in China will reach 160 billion yuan, including about 30 billion yuan for express logistics.

The prospect is promising, but Xiong Guanghui said frankly in an interview that as an unmanned distribution intelligent product, there are still some challenges in the promotion of UAV docking cabinet. For example, the product cost needs to be further reduced to better realize commercial use; UAV route network also needs to be further mature in order to better achieve scale utility. In addition, the promotion of the product also depends on the further improvement of UAV technology, including its operational stability, obstacle avoidance, endurance, noise control technology, etc. In addition, in terms of information security and privacy security, the operator also needs to comply with the guidance of relevant laws and regulations to avoid relevant risks.
