"Highway landscape greening has the advantages of carbon fixation and oxygen release, improving driving safety coefficient, etc. However, most of the highways in Ningxia are located in arid and semi-arid zones, which makes landscape greening difficult," said the relevant person in charge of Ningxia Highway Management Center, In order to implement the requirements of the Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Transport and the People's Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on Accelerating the Construction of a Transport Power and Building a Pilot Area for Green Transport Development in the Yellow River Basin, the researchers decided to tackle the problem of road greening.
The reporter learned that the research group fully practiced the concept of "turning waste into treasure". Scientific researchers add grass ash and other waste materials such as cow dung fermented by farms around Yinchuan to form a natural ecological matrix, and then create a cultivation technology and greening mode of "different tree species+special matrix+supporting containers" based on container seedlings, so as to achieve the effect of rapid afforestation and landscaping. At present, the research team has carried out application scenario tests on the section from Minning Town to Pingjibao near the National Highway 110, with good results. It is expected to solve the problems of low survival rate and poor growth of trees in the greening project along the highway, and further reduce the cost of highway management and greening.
