Ceramic coating is an inorganic organic composite ceramic coating composed of metal oxide or non-metal oxide, nitride and a small amount of polyalkoxyorganosilane.

The research history of ceramic coatings can be traced back to the earlier preparation of ceramic coatings by the Sol Gel process technology that appeared in the 1960s. The sol-gel process was proposed by German researchers earlier, and coating is one of the more important applications of the sol-gel process. In 1981, Sakka and Yoko in Padova, Italy, published a research review on various sol-gel coatings, which introduced many functions of sol-gel derived coatings, including conductivity, corrosion resistance, wear resistance and selective gas permeation barrier. In 1993, Sakka summarized the practical application of titanium oxide, silicon oxide and hybrid products to form coatings and fibers. In 1997, Zarzycky reviewed the research progress of organic-inorganic hybrid materials. Zazichiki found that the combination of organic materials and inorganic materials will become the gateway of new materials, that is, ceramic coatings will become a new material.

The research and development of ceramic coatings requires a large amount of manpower and material resources, and has abundant research and development funds.
