Working principle of waterproof breathable membrane:
In the state of water vapor, the water particles are very small. According to the principle of capillary movement, they can smoothly penetrate to the capillary to the other side, thus causing the phenomenon of vapor permeability. When the water vapor condenses into water droplets, the particles become larger. Due to the surface tension of the water droplets (the water molecules "pull against each other"), the water molecules can not be separated from the water droplets and permeate to the other side smoothly, which prevents the water infiltration and makes the vapor permeable membrane waterproof.
