Bamboo
close Bamboo (Bambusoideae) is a perennial lignified plant of Gramineae. Bamboo is the shortest bamboo species in Gramineae, with a stem height of 10-15cm. The largest bamboo species has a stem height of more than 40m. Mature bamboo gives birth to horizontal branches, sword shaped leaves with petioles, and leaves of young plants grow directly from stems. Although the stems of some species grow rapidly (0.3 meters per day), most species only bloom and seed after 12 to 120 years of growth. Bamboo blossoms and seeds only once in its life. The bamboo branches are tall and straight, slender, graceful, green all the year round, frost and rain, which is very popular with the Chinese people. It is one of the four gentlemen described in "Mei Lan Zhu Ju", and has the reputation of "Mei Song Zhu", "Three Friends in Winter", etc. Bamboo has been listed as the city tree of Guiyang.
