Polystyrene has a broad application prospect in food packaging because of its transparency, excellent rigidity, electrical performance and printing performance, especially good hygiene and low price. It has been widely used in various instrument housings, lampshades, optical parts, instrument parts, transparent window mirrors, transparent models, chemical acid storage tanks, acid conveying tanks, telecommunications parts, high-frequency capacitors, high-frequency insulation pads, supports, inserts and frozen insulation materials in the electromechanical industry, instrument and communication equipment industries. It is also widely used in various daily necessities, such as bottle caps, containers, decorations, buttons, combs, toothbrushes, soap boxes, cigarette boxes and toys.

3. Development history of GPPS

General grade polystyrene is a thermoplastic resin, which is colorless, odorless, tasteless and shiny, transparent bead or granular solid. The density is 1.04~1.09, the transparency is 88%~92%, and the refractive index is 1.59~1.60. Under the action of stress, birefringence is produced, which is called stress optical effect. The melting temperature of the product is 150~180 ℃, the thermal decomposition temperature is 300 ℃, the thermal deformation temperature is 70~100 ℃, and the long-term use temperature is 60~80 ℃. When the hot deformation temperature is 5~6 ℃ lower, the stress can be relieved after annealing treatment, and the hot deformation temperature can be increased. If a little α - methylstyrene is added in the production process, the heat resistance grade of general polystyrene can be improved.
