The theme of IDSA 2008 is "Unity of Opposites". As a microcosm of this theme, GLS displayed the award-winning SCUBA frog shoe, which combines hard and shiny yellow polypropylene material with soft and flexible rough black Thermoplastic elastomer Together. Omega Aquatics Amphibian? Designed by Designcraft? The bendable frog shoes enable divers to walk on land with a fin knife, and the leaves will open automatically when swimming. This unique convertible design relies on GLS overlapping injection molding of DYNAFLEX? Thermoplastic elastomer and polypropylene matrix. Through the combination of this material, divers can enjoy a soft and comfortable feeling, while enhancing underwater buoyancy and agility.
The Amphibian frog shoe won the bronze medal of Business Week Conception Design Award. This is a complicated design, because the fin knife required for walking on land is different from that in water. When the blade leans against the calf, flexible and soft materials are necessary for comfort. The foot belt needs to be comfortable, and must be durable and suitable for walking on the ground. In order to obtain underwater performance, we need a material that combines stiffness and flexibility for propulsion and turning, and it is light in weight. GLS's DYNAFLEX thermoplastic elastomer combined with polypropylene material meets all our requirements.
DYNAFLEX thermoplastic elastomer material has soft and elastic feeling, good weather resistance and easy processing. In order to make frog shoes, Designcraft and molding personnel choose two brand materials with different hardness: DYNAFLEX 7960 as foot strap and DYNAFLEX 7970 as blade. The adhesive property and filling ability of this material have left a particularly deep impression.
GLS was acquired by PolyOne in January 2008. GLS is the world's leading manufacturer of high-performance thermoplastic elastomer materials.
