In the 1980s, there were three kinds of solid polysulfide rubber products: ① Type A polysulfide rubber, which was the condensation polymer of dichloroethane and alkali metal tetrasulfide (Thiokol A). ②FA type polysulfide rubber is the condensation polymer of dichloroethane, bis (2-chloroethyl) acetal and alkali metal disulfide (Thiokol FA). ③ST type polysulfide rubber is a condensation polymer of dichlorovinyl acetal, trichloropropane and alkali metal polysulfide (Thiokol ST).Due to the inclusion of sulfhydryl end groups and 2% crosslinking degree, the compression deformation is improved compared with the first two polysulfide rubbers, but the oil resistance and storage stability are worse than Thiokol FA.Liquid polysulfide rubber with low molecular weight (1200~3000) has mercapto, hydroxyl, halogen, polyamine, amide and other end groups, among which liquid polysulfide rubber with mercapto end groups accounts for the majority of polysulfide rubber products.
Generally, water or water containing alcohol is used as polymerization medium, sodium alkylnaphthalene sulfonate and magnesium hydroxide sol are used as suspension agents, and dichloroethyl acetal and sodium polysulfide are polymerized in suspension emulsion at 90~100 ℃.The polymer suspension is treated by sedimentation, water washing and filtration to obtain high molecular weight polymer.The high molecular weight polymer can be broken with sodium hydrosulfide and sodium sulfite to obtain a polymer with a molecular weight of 1000~10000 and a sulfhydryl end group. Adding a small amount of trichloropropane in the polymerization formula can make the polymer molecules have high cross-linking and branched chains.
