Customs and taboos

1、 Major holidays: January 1 is New Year's Day, April 24 is National Harmony Day, May 1 is Labor Day, August 3 is Independence Day, and December 18 is the founding day of the Republic (National Day). In addition, Eid al Fitr (October 1 in the Islamic calendar), Eid al Adha (December 10 in the Islamic calendar), and some Christian festivals such as Christmas (December 25) are also national legal holidays.

2、 Religion and customs: Niger is an Islamic country, and more than 90% of its residents believe in Islam. Nigeria is also a multi-ethnic country with different customs.

Niger people have the custom of early marriage. The marriage age of men is mostly 18-20 years old, while the standard marriage age of women is about 14 years old. Women generally do not wear veils, while Tuareg men wear veils after the age of 25. The Bororo people in Niger have the custom of male beauty contest. Niger people avoid sleeping with their faces facing east or lying on their backs in rainy season. The majority of Niger people who believe in traditional religion are fetishists. They believe that everything has a spirit. They believe that the sun, the moon, some trees, rocks, etc. have gods and worship them.

  Special tips: Muslims pray five times a day. Those who first arrive in Niger should respect the religious customs of Islamic countries and not interfere with or affect the prayer activities of local people.

  Special tips: Sudden power cuts due to weather, lines and other reasons are frequent in the local area, which is likely to cause damage to computers and other equipment. It is recommended to install uninterruptible power supplies for important office computers and other equipment. When selecting household appliances, it is recommended to select fixed frequency appliances.
