In May 1981, Shanghai Film Studio shot the feature film Procurator, starring the famous performing artist Li Muran. The film tells the story of the recovery and reconstruction of the procuratorial organ through a criminal case, and then found that this is a deliberate case of injustice, fraud and error, and behind this case of injustice, fraud and error, there is a major murder case.

Li Muran starred in Procurator General Xu Li. The story happened in the downtown area. A young man suddenly fell down in front of Xu Li's car. When Xu Li rescued him and was preparing to bandage him, he unexpectedly disappeared mysteriously. It turned out that this young man was Zhang Hua, a gangster who Xu Li was chasing. After careful investigation, Xu Li finally confirmed that Zhang Hua was a good man who was framed, but the real criminal was his son Xu Wentao. The Prosecutor General was in great pain under this unexpected blow. At this time, Liang Jingyi, the deputy director of the Public Security Bureau, suddenly came to care for Xu Li and was willing to give false testimony to Xu Li's son to extricate him from his crime. Xu Li categorically rejected the "care" of Deputy Director Liang and broke through the obstacles set by Liang Jingyi, exposing a major murder committed by Liang Jingyi with his wife, while Zhang Hua was the witness of Liang Jingyi's crime. Therefore, Liang Jingyi tried to frame Zhang Hua to cover up his crime. In the end, the prosecutor Xu Li lost his son, but he maintained the dignity of the law.

This is the first film work taking procuratorial work as the theme since the founding of New China. Through Li Muran's superb interpretation, it shows the image of a prosecutor who is resolute, fearless, upright and law enforcement. At the same time, it also reflects the arduous process of the procuratorial organs in the early stage of recovery and reconstruction to redress unjust, false and wrong cases.
