Launching satellites and building satellites with satellites to vigorously promote China Africa space cooperation

Time: 09:52:21, September 10, 2018 Source: Author:

On September 3, the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation opened in the Great Hall of the People. On the same day, the high-level dialogue meeting between Chinese and African leaders and business representatives and the sixth China Africa Entrepreneurs' Conference was held in the National Convention Center. President Xi Jinping attended and delivered a keynote speech entitled "Towards the Road to Prosperity Together", emphasizing that China supports African countries to participate in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road", and is willing to strengthen all-round docking with Africa to create a inclusive, inclusive A high-quality development path of mutual benefit and win-win results.

Over the years, the Aerospace Science and Technology Group has vigorously promoted China Africa space cooperation by means of whole satellite export, cooperation in building space infrastructure, sharing satellite resources and other ways, and has upgraded China Africa cooperation to 36000 kilometers high in space, benefiting Africa's economic and social development at a new height. African leaders from many countries have visited the Aerospace Science and Technology Group (ASTG), praised its great role in China Africa high-end science and technology industry cooperation, and expressed their intention to carry out cooperation or continue to carry out cooperation.

Satellite launch:

Whole star export, starting in Africa

On May 14, 2007, the Long March 3B carrier rocket took off from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center and successfully sent the Nigerian Communication Satellite 1 into space; The satellite was successfully positioned over the equator at 42 degrees east longitude on May 22; On July 6, the delivery ceremony of Nigeria Communication Satellite 1 was held in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, marking the successful completion of China's first full satellite export. In 2011, China launched the Nigerian communication satellite 1R for the country.

Nigeria Communication Satellite 1 and Nigeria Communication Satellite 1R mainly meet the needs of Nigeria's telecommunications, broadcasting, broadband multimedia services, and can serve neighboring countries. Satellites can not only save hundreds of millions of satellite communications and other costs for African users every year, but also play an important role in e-commerce, distance education and e-government, promote the development of Nigeria's digital economy, and drive the progress of African continent in satellite applications, ground communications, telecommunications networks, and economic and cultural exchanges and development.

On December 11, 2017, China successfully launched Algeria's No. 1 communication satellite with the Long March 3B carrier rocket, which is another time that the Aerospace Science and Technology Group successfully launched the whole satellite export business to African users. On the same day, President Xi Jinping and President Bouteflika of Algeria exchanged congratulatory messages, congratulating the successful launch of Algerian communication satellite No. 1 in Xichang.

Algeria 1 communication satellite was fixed on December 18 and delivered in orbit in March this year. Covering Algeria and its surrounding areas, the satellite is mainly used in Algeria's radio and television, emergency communication, distance education, e-government, enterprise communication, broadband access and satellite based navigation enhancement services. It will improve Algeria's national infrastructure, benefit people in remote areas, and improve people's quality of life.

By satellite:

Considerate service and resource sharing

As one of the few suppliers in the world that can provide satellite manufacturing, launch services, ground control, ground station construction and other aerospace products and service integration, Aerospace Science and Technology Group can not only build and launch good satellites for customers, but also teach customers to use satellites well to maximize benefits.

The Nigerian communication satellite 1 project is the first time that China has adopted a new model of whole satellite export. The important reason why this model has been favored by customers is that the project not only includes "launching satellites", but also includes building ground stations and teaching satellite operation methods. Turner, then Minister of Science and Technology of Nigeria, said that China not only sold satellites, but also helped Nigeria train technicians, creating a new model of cooperation in the high-tech field among developing countries. For many user countries, the implementation of a communication satellite project can create more than hundreds of thousands of jobs.

Signing Ceremony of Nigeria Communication Satellite 1R Project

In addition to providing considerate services in the whole satellite export business, China also uses its space infrastructure to carry out space cooperation with African countries.

In November 2007, at the meeting of the International Earth Observation Organization held in South Africa, China announced to share resource satellite data with Africa, and to establish a China Brazil Earth Resources Satellite data receiving station in South Africa for data processing, storage and distribution, which reflects China's responsibility as a responsible country. Since 2010, China has signed new agreements with relevant parties to further promote China Africa satellite remote sensing data sharing cooperation.

On April 10, 2018, the first overseas center of China's Beidou satellite navigation system, the China Arab Beidou Center, was inaugurated at the headquarters of the Arab Information and Communication Technology Organization in Tunisia, a North African country. The center is mainly oriented to Arab and African countries and integrates the functions of publicity and display, application demonstration, testing and evaluation, education and training, and joint research. It is a window to comprehensively display the construction and application achievements of the Beidou satellite navigation system and a platform to promote international exchanges and cooperation.

Satellite building:

Give them fishing and cooperate sincerely

At the beginning of 2016, President Xi Jinping paid state visits to Egypt and other countries. As one of the important achievements of President Xi Jinping's visit to Egypt - the signing of the project cooperation agreement of the Egyptian Satellite Assembly Integration Test Center (referred to as Egypt AIT Center), which is in the charge of the affiliated unit of Aerospace Science and Technology Group, marks that the project has officially entered the implementation phase of performance.

Egypt is committed to developing the remote sensing satellite industry. As an important ground infrastructure, the AIT center is an indispensable part of the satellite development sector. However, Egypt does not have its own satellite assembly, integration and test center, so it cannot have preliminary satellite development capability, and can only rely on importing foreign whole satellites.

The completion of the Egyptian AIT Center will greatly promote Egypt's ability to independently develop satellites. At that time, Egypt will have an internationally advanced aerospace infrastructure and the ability to develop two 600kg satellites in parallel.

During the implementation of the AIT Center project in Egypt, China will also be responsible for training scientific and technological personnel for Egypt. After the center is completed, Egypt can operate the center independently.

This year, China and Egypt signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the National Space Administration of the People's Republic of China and the National Remote Sensing Space Science Administration of the Arab Republic of Egypt on Cooperation in the Egyptian Space City, which will further deepen the cooperation between the two sides and set a new benchmark for China Africa space cooperation.
