In specific quantitative research, quality of life is divided into four parts: private life, public life, living environment and life satisfaction. The first three are collectively referred to as real life, which can be analyzed with relevant statistical indicators, and has good international comparability; Life satisfaction is a comprehensive concept of objective indicators to measure satisfaction and subjective feeling satisfaction, which can be analyzed with social survey data and has good historical comparability. These indicators cover almost all aspects of human life. The personal life selects five dimensions of nutrition, health, family, housing, consumption and cost, the public life selects eleven dimensions of four fields of economic, social, cultural and political life, and the living environment selects five dimensions of public facilities, public services, public security, natural environment and international environment for quantitative analysis, and focuses on their commonalities and laws.

A better life is the common dream and unremitting pursuit of mankind. The modernization of life quality is the world frontier of the change of human life quality since the 20th century, as well as the behavior and process of catching up, reaching and maintaining the world frontier level. For developed countries, it is necessary to maintain the advanced level of social development; For developing countries, they should not only complete the second modernization process from industrial economy to knowledge economy, but also find the gap between themselves and developed countries, learn from them, actively learn from them, and move closer to the international leading level. Modernization is a dynamic process, which involves not only improvement and upgrading, but also reduction and retreat.

The modernization of China's quality of life is a kind of backward chasing modernization of quality of life. Since 1990, the modernization level of China's quality of life has grown rapidly, the proportion of residents' consumption expenditure is changing, and the proportion of public life consumption expenditure is rising. Three changes have taken place in family life, including the miniaturization of family size, the aging of structure and the emergence of various forms of marriage. In a word, the quality of life in China has greatly improved in the 21st century, both in absolute and relative terms. But we must realize that the gap between us and the world's advanced level also exists objectively.
