In May 2023, I went from China Agricultural University to Bangdong Village, Mengdui Township, Zhenkang County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province, which was designated by the university as the first secretary of the village and the leader of the village team. After nine months of living in the village, I really felt the simple yearning of farmers for a better life and had a new understanding of grass-roots work.
There are more than 380 households and more than 1600 people in Bangdong Village. In the past year, I have visited most of the farmers to learn about the composition of family members, the implementation of "two worries and three guarantees", drinking water safety, industrial development, villagers' income, etc. A few years ago, with the efforts of village cadres, although the vast majority of farmers did not risk returning to poverty, they still need to continue to struggle to make life better for everyone. At the same time of the visit, I also actively publicized the agriculture related preferential policies to the villagers, listened to their ideas on the development of the village, and put some details into practice. On the eve of the Spring Festival this year, the village cadres spent part of their working funds in the village to send condolences to the elderly over 80 years old, the disabled subsidy personnel, the monitoring objects and the poor support personnel in the village, so that they can feel more care.
The current industry of Bangdong Village is mainly planting sugar cane, but because it is located in the mountain area and cannot use large-scale harvesting machinery, it can only be harvested manually, and the efficiency is very low. In the past two years, Professor Ma Shaochun of China Agricultural University has made some progress in developing sugarcane harvesting equipment in hilly and mountainous areas in Bangdong Village. In order to further promote relevant scientific research, Professor Ma and I discussed and decided to apply to the school to establish a small science and technology institute here. Through all procedures and processes, the Yunnan Zhenkang Intelligent Harvesting Technology and Equipment Science and Technology Institute of China Agricultural University was successfully located in Bangdong Village last December. I learned that many farmers in the village plant golden chrysanthemum, but sales has always been a problem, so I contacted the school trade union and recommended it. China Agricultural University finally decided to purchase the finished golden chrysanthemum with a total amount of more than 400000 yuan, thus driving about 700 villagers to work nearby.
Although the post of the first secretary in the village is small, it bears the great responsibility of people's livelihood. When the leadership of China Agricultural University sent me to the post, they told me to do my best to do good things for the villagers. During this period, I was responsible for docking the social donation fund for the construction of the new park of Bangdong Kindergarten introduced by Professor Li Xiaoyun's team of China Agricultural University, which contributed to the directional donation of more than 130000 yuan for the construction of Beijing Yixing Public Welfare Foundation. At the same time, I also actively contacted the Student Affairs Department of the Party Committee of China Agricultural University where I was, striving for the summer practice project of "Rural Revitalization Commissioner", and finally realized that 8 teachers and students would go to the village for 7 days to carry out relevant research and popular science knowledge publicity and education, and carried out a special live broadcast on the development and construction of East Village through the official account number of China Agricultural University. In addition, I also actively docked and won the school's designated assistance fund of 200000 yuan, which is needed for the village's talent learning and training, agricultural product production procedures, village appearance improvement and other aspects.
When I read Xi Jinping's Seven Years of Educated Youth, I was touched by the young Xi Jinping's feelings and responsibilities. I didn't expect that now I also have the opportunity to take root in the countryside. In the process of visiting villagers, chatting and preaching policies, I deeply realized that the cadres are watching the masses, and the masses are watching the cadres. They will see whether you have official airs, whether you communicate sincerely, whether you speak well, and whether you try your best to do practical things
This Spring Festival, instead of going back to my hometown, I chose to spend a particularly meaningful Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon with my family in Zhenkang County, appreciate the customs and culture of border ethnic areas, and feel the simple feelings of the local people, which also strengthened my determination to be the first secretary in the village and do more practical things for the people.
