Introduction to Suzhou

Suzhou, the northern gate of Anhui, is located at the southern end of the Huang Huai Plain, bordering 11 counties in Jiangsu, Shandong and Henan provinces, Xuzhou City in Jiangsu Province and Heze City in Shandong Province to the north, Shangqiu City in Henan Province to the west, and Huaiyin City in Jiangsu Province to the east. In the spring of 1999, Suzhou City was established under the jurisdiction of the province. It has jurisdiction over Dangshan, Xiaoxian, Lingbi, Sixian and Yongqiao districts, 110 towns and townships, 8 sub district offices, 2916 administrative villages, with a total population of 5.82 million and a total area of 9787 square kilometers. History and Culture Suzhou has a long history and a rich cultural landscape. In the Qin and Han Dynasties, it had become a "place where boats and cars meet and Jiuzhou passes through", and the opening of the "Tongji Canal" in the Sui Dynasty had become an important military town that "controlled the Bian River and the Huai River, and was the focus of the north and the south".
