Suqian has jurisdiction over Shuyang, Siyang and Sihong counties, Suyu District and Sucheng District, with 67 townships (towns) and 28 sub district offices. At the beginning of the city's establishment in July 1996, the city has jurisdiction over four counties and one district, with a total of 124 townships. From 1996 to 2000, 51 townships were successively removed from the countryside and set up towns. In May 2000, with the approval of the provincial government, 15 towns, 6 farms and nurseries were merged, and 4 sub district offices were newly established. The total number of towns and villages was reduced from 126 to 111. In June 2001, in combination with the reform of rural taxes and fees, the village (neighborhood) committees with less than 2500 people in the city were merged. The total number of villages (residences) was removed from 2299 to 1418, with a removal rate of 38%. In March 2004, with the approval of the State Council, Suyu County was cancelled and Suyu District was established. After adjustment, the urban planning control area was expanded to 2108 square kilometers, with a total population of nearly 1.5 million. In July 2005, with the approval of the provincial government, Shizi Town, Qixiong Town and Zhangji Town of Shuyang County were merged into Shucheng Town; The Chengxiang Town and Lai'an Township of Siyang County will be incorporated into Zhongxing Town, and the Daxing Neighborhood Committee of Linhe Town will be incorporated into Zhongxing Town; The Dalou Township and Chonggang Township of Sihong County will be incorporated into Qingyang Town, and the Wulijiang Farm will be incorporated into Qingyang Town. In July 2013, with the approval of the provincial government, Shucheng Sub district Office, Nanhu Sub district Office, Mengxi Sub district Office, Shizi Sub district Office, Zhangji Sub district Office and Qixiong Sub district Office were set up. In November 2014, with the approval of the provincial government, Shunhe Town, Suyu District was revoked and Shunhe Sub district Office, Yuxin Sub district Office and Xiaxiang Sub district Office were established. In December 2017, with the approval of the provincial government, Shuangzhuang Town and Sankeshu Township in Sucheng District were cancelled, and Shuangzhuang Street, Zhikou Street, Sankeshu Street and Huanghe Street in Sucheng District were established; Cancels Cangji Town, Zhenglou Town and Yanghe Town in Sucheng District and establishes a new Yanghe Town. In March 2018, with the approval of the provincial government, Huanghe Street was cancelled and Huanghe Street and Guchu Street were established. In May 2018, with the approval of the provincial government, Qingyang Town of Sihong County was cancelled and Qingyang Street, Chonggang Street and Dadou Street of Sihong County were established. In July 2020, with the approval of the provincial government, Zhongxing Town of Siyang County will be revoked, and Zhongxing Street will be set up, with 21 neighborhood committees of the original Zhongxing Town as administrative areas; Set up Chengxiang Street, with the 14 neighborhood committees of the original Zhongxing Town as the administrative areas; The Baji Township was abolished and Lai'an Street was established, with the 18 neighborhood committees of the original Baji Township and the original Zhongxing Town as the administrative regions; Sanzhuang Township was abolished and Sanzhuang Town was established, with the nine neighborhood committees of the original Sanzhuang Township and the original Zhongxing Town as the administrative regions; Abolish Aiyuan Town and Liren Township and establish a new Aiyuan Town; Abolish Gaodu Town and Luji Town and establish a new Luji Town; Cancel Wangji Town and Nanliuji Township, and establish a new Wangji Town; Cancel Chuancheng Town and Zhangjiaxu Town and establish new Chuancheng Town; The three neighborhood committees of the original Zhongxing Town are under the jurisdiction of Linhe Town. In March 2021, Caiji Town in Suyu District will be under the jurisdiction of Sucheng District with the approval of the provincial government. Cancel Yangbei Town in Sucheng District and set up Yangbei Street; Cancel Longhe Town and Luowei Township and establish a new Longhe Town; Tuyuan Township was abolished and Tuyuan Town was established. Revoke Luji Town in Suyu District and establish Luji Street; Xiaodian Town and Jingtou Township were abolished and Xiaodian Street and Jingtou Street were established; Cancel Lailong Town, Shiling Town and Baoan Township, and establish a new Lailong Town; Remove Daxing Town and Dingzui Town and establish a new Daxing Town; Zaohe Town and Huangdun Town were abolished and new Zaohe Town was established.
