Rambus improves data center server performance through the industry's first fourth generation DDR5 RCD

[Original by Zhongguancun Online] Author: Xu Peng

Recently, Rambus announced the launch of the fourth generation DDR5 register clock drive RCD, and will provide samples to major DDR5 memory module (RDIMM) manufacturers in the fourth quarter of 2023. Rambus fourth generation RCD has increased the data transmission rate to 7200 MT/s, setting a new performance benchmark. Compared with the current 4800 MT/s DDR5 module solution, its memory bandwidth has increased by 50%. It supports rapid improvement of server main memory performance to meet the needs of generative AI and other advanced data center workloads.

Fan Xianzhi, chief operating officer of Rambus, said, "Memory is an important driver of server performance. Driven by demanding workloads such as generative AI, the demand for larger memory bandwidth continues to rise sharply. Rambus's fourth generation DDR5 RCD is the latest proof that we are committed to providing products that are ahead of market demand to support customers' current and planned server platforms. "

Shane Rau, Vice President of IDC Computing Semiconductor, said: "Guided by the amazing pace of innovation in the field of AI, advanced workloads are driving the accelerated development of new server platforms in the data center. DDR5 RCD is critical to supporting the performance, power consumption and signal integrity required by RDIMM in AI servers."
