Geographic location
Guangyuan is located in the transitional zone on the eastern edge of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau, at the northern edge of the Sichuan Basin, upstream of the Jialing River, connected to Hanzhong City of Shaanxi Province and Longnan City of Gansu Province in the north, adjacent to Nanchong City in the southeast, Bazhong City in the east, Mianyang City in the west and southwest, with a north-south width of 117.24 kilometers and an east-west length of 189.48 kilometers.

Guangyuan has four counties and three districts: Cangxi County, Wangcang County, Jiange County, Qingchuan County, Lizhou District, Zhaohua District and Chaotian District.
