In June this year, the Dutch government issued regulations restricting the export of advanced semiconductors, which obviously restricts the export of lithography machines to China. However, in actual implementation, ASML is allowed to ship some lithographers to China before the end of 2023. As a result, the number of ASML lithography machines imported by China has surged in the past two or three months.

According to media reports, the Chinese mainland imported 42 lithography machines in November, including 16 from ASML, 15 from Japan, and 11 from second-hand equipment manufacturers in other countries, with a total cost of 816.8 million dollars. Among them, ASML equipment accounted for the largest part, with a total value of $762.7 million, accounting for more than 93%.

It should be clear that the orders for the imported lithography machines are basically at the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023. From January 1, 2024, ASML is unlikely to provide photolithography machines to customers in mainland China because it has no corresponding export license.
