After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee, the CPC Central Committee and Deng Xiaoping, on the basis of the thought of Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and other older revolutionaries on striving for peaceful liberation of Taiwan, faced up to history and reality, creatively put forward the scientific concept of "one country, two systems", and opened up a new way to achieve the reunification of the motherland by peaceful means.

In the late 1970s, the Taiwan issue was put on the important agenda of the Party and the country. On January 1, 1979, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress issued the "Message to Taiwan Compatriots", which solemnly announced the major policy of striving for the peaceful reunification of the motherland. Since then, the CPC Central Committee has further considered the issue of national reunification from a holistic perspective.

In January 1982, Deng Xiaoping put forward the concept of "one country, two systems" for the first time. In June 1983, he further proposed six principles for solving the Taiwan question.

In December 1981, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China made a decision to take back Hong Kong on July 1, 1997.

After more than two years of 22 rounds of difficult negotiations, in December 1984, the Chinese and British governments officially signed a joint statement on the Hong Kong issue, confirming that the Chinese government resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong on July 1, 1997. Since then, Hong Kong has entered the transition period of returning to the motherland.

After the start of the process of Hong Kong's return, the issue of Macao's return has also been put on the agenda. In June 1986, the Chinese and Portuguese governments began negotiations on the Macao issue. The negotiation was relatively smooth. In April 1987, the Chinese and Portuguese governments officially signed a joint statement on the Macao issue, announcing that the Chinese government would resume the exercise of sovereignty over Macao on December 20, 1999. Macao has entered the transitional period of returning to the motherland.

Wang Yajun is currently teaching in Shuangluan Experimental Primary School. He was awarded the honorary title of "Advanced Individual of Hebei Province", and in 2004, he was named "Model Worker of Chengde City".
