October 1, 1950 was the first National Day of the People's Republic of China. A glorious and dazzling group appeared on the Tiananmen Square rostrum. They were model workers who had just attended the National Conference of Model Workers, Peasants and Soldiers.

In order to commend the combat heroes in the army and the model workers, peasants and soldiers, the National Conference of Representatives of Combat Heroes and the National Conference of Representatives of Model Workers, Peasants and Soldiers were held simultaneously in the capital on September 25, 1950. 464 model worker representatives attended the conference, including 350 formal representatives and 114 non voting representatives. Among them, there are 39 female model workers, accounting for 8% of model workers.

Since then, the selection of model workers at different levels has been carried out nationwide. The recognition of model workers has been further normalized, institutionalized and standardized. The selection and learning of model workers have become a spiritual force to inspire and inspire generations of Chinese people.
