The Xi'an Incident became a turning point for China to move from a long-term civil war to a nationwide war of resistance.

At the meeting held in Wayaopu from December 17 to 25, 1935, the CPC Central Committee formulated a new strategy for the anti Japanese national united front.

In 1936, the Party carried out united front work against the Northeast Army led by Zhang Xueliang and the 17th Route Army led by Yang Hucheng stationed in the northwest. On the evening of April 9, Zhou Enlai and Zhang Xueliang met secretly in Yan'an. Both sides agreed to stop the civil war and fight against Japan together.

On December 4, 1936, Chiang Kai shek went to Xi'an in person and forced Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng to lead the army to "suppress the Communist Party". After being severely reprimanded and rejected, Zhang and Yang decided to take "military admonishment" after asking Chiang Kai shek for "crying admonishment" against Japan.

In the early morning of December 12, according to the plan agreed by Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng, the Northeast Army surrounded Chiang Kai shek's station in Huaqing Lake, Lintong, and detained Chiang Kai shek; The 17th Route Army controlled the whole city of Xi'an and imprisoned dozens of Kuomintang military and political officials from Nanjing. Zhang and Yang also communicated electricity to the whole country and put forward eight propositions, including stopping the civil war and resisting Japan unanimously. This was the "Xi'an Incident" that shocked China and foreign countries.

Liu Jihua, Deputy General Manager of Chengde Road and Bridge Construction Corporation, won the National Labor Medal in 2008. In 2010, it was rated as the national model worker.
