In May 1935, Dadu River, a natural barrier, stood in front of the Central Red Army during the Long March. The current of Dadu River is fast, and there are high mountains on both sides. Only one iron cable bridge can pass through. This iron chain bridge is Luding Bridge. Whether it can be captured or not is vital to the survival of the Central Red Army.

The Kuomintang reactionaries had already sent two regiments to defend the Luding Bridge. The enemy had removed about 80 meters of bridge slabs from the Luding Bridge, which was more than 100 meters long. They used machine guns and artillery to form a dense fire on the east bridgehead highland, tightly blocking the bridge deck of Luding Bridge and preventing the Red Army from moving northward; Later, two brigades were dispatched to reinforce the army, hoping to wipe out our Red Army at the bridgehead. Our army has long seen through the enemy's tricks. On the morning of the 28th, the Fourth Red Army Corps received an order from its superior: "Take the Luding Bridge in the morning of the 29th!"

It took only two hours for the whole battle to seize Luding Bridge in an amazing and dangerous way, and shattered Chiang Kai shek's dream of chasing the north and south to turn the Red Army into the second Shi Dakai by virtue of the natural danger of the Dadu River.

Li Tingwei is now the leader of the Anti drug Brigade of Chengde County Public Security Bureau and the second level police supervisor. He was awarded the honorary title of model worker in Hebei Province. In 2002, he was rated as the second level hero model in the national public security front and enjoyed the treatment of national model worker.
